Didn’t the SEC once discourage schools from poaching coaches within their own conference?

I thought I remembered some sort of gentleman’s agreement like that, but maybe it was just a dream.

What are some recent examples of SEC head coaches moving to the same job, different school with the conference?

Houston Nutt. Tommy Turberville. Dennis Fran. Top of my head. Long time ago, though.

Not sure A&M was in the SEC at that point, though.

I remember a poster on here saying the SEC office was involved in this somehow. Could obviously be bs but made me think

A "gentleman's agreement" rarely survives the first million dollar contract

Why? You want the government telling you not to change jobs?

Was A&M already in the SEC when Fran jumped there?

The SEC office nixed Tuberville moving to LSU after he ditched Ole Miss and then coached one year at Auburn. We had to settle for Nick Saban instead.

He went to A&M in 2002. A&M joined the conference 10 years later.

I don’t think they care about coaches moving within the conference but I bet they discourage said coach to take players with him.

Bear went from the SEC to the SWC, then back to the SEC. Just so happens the SWC team he went to is now in the SEC.

Kentucky->aTm->Alabama

These are the four I recall going directly from one SEC school to another, and the year they started at the new school.

Gerry Dinardo from Vandy to LSU in 1995 (first one I can find in my very non-exhaustive search)

Tommy Tuberville from Ole Miss to Auburn in 1999

Houston Nutt from Arkansas to Ole Miss in 2008

Dan Mullen from Moo State to Florida in 2018

The rule is clear. Any SEC coach can transfer whenever they want as long as it's to Alabama or Texas

Spurrier was Florida and uSC but he did that weird stint at the Redskins between the two.

Vandy was upset, and wouldn't let us wear our home whites.
Was it those ugly gold uniforms
