Does anyone do this anymore?
Grew up running rabbits with dogs… it’s been 30 years though.
Got many buddies that hunt, etc, but none do and never hear of anyone that does.
Just curious

Rabbit hunting with beagles is so much fun. The guys I use to go with got old and don’t have dogs anymore.
I could be wrong but it has always seemed far and few between with the amount of people who do it. You are lucky if you know someone that invites you or have someone in a hunting club that has dogs.

I used to have a blast running rabbit dogs, but I got rid of mine 35 years ago too. About the only guys I know that do it any more are a couple of guys in the local black community.
You have got me wanting to check in with them!

We had loads of fun chasing them big Cane Cutters in the swamp and Hillbillies on the ridges. Not many people want to keep up a pack of dogs for a short season and limited public land.

Most clubs only allow it after deer season these days, nobody wants to deal with a pack of hounds all year to make a handful of hunts in February. Sad state of affairs we’re living in…can’t stop what’s coming.

Used to rabbit hunt a good bit. BIL always had a couple of good dogs. Haven't been in a few years.
I usually have a pretty good crop of rabbits on my place, but between hawks, owls, two different types of foxes, coyotes, bobcats, cats, etc., they are dwindling.
Quite a few get run over as well.

All my moms brothers use to run both deer and rabbit dogs. What's ironic is one of the better places they use run rabbit dogs is now a subdivision where my mom lives. I remember my Uncles had all had 6-10 dogs at a time. Half were for rabbit and half were for deer. The deer dogs were bigger, they had to be taller so they could run through the swamp.

When I woodcock hunt my dog usually points a rabbit or two and I shoot them
I also do one big rabbit hunt a year down in Belle Chase where we follow a bush hog and kill about 100 rabbits

We did it some when I was young and we still had our family place. Have done it a couple times in the basin.
Would love to find some guys to go with but few and far between these days. Same with guys with squirrel dogs.

Ol boy on the neighboring lease has a dogs and we run them on my place every year after deer season.
Definitely highlight of the year with a big breakfast followed by some races and then a big supper at the camp.

All of the places we ran dogs when I was a kid are now fenced up with posted signs. I take my son in the cane field after they cut and walk ditch banks. Always good for 2 or 3.

I've got a 600 acre block in MS we could do it in but it is thick but doable.
If anyone has dogs let me know.

Went with a buddy last year for the first time in years. We had a blast. It was like running deer dogs on a much smaller scale.

Brings back memories, used to rabbit hunt all the time growing up with dogs but haven't done it in probably 30 years.

Damn, the last time I went rabbit hunting with dogs was with my dad and a couple of his friends and they all had beagles. My dad had 3 and I was all of 8 years old when I hunted with him for the last time.
He died a couple weeks later of a heart attack at age 35 and the dogs were given to his hunting buddies. After that, when I got older, I hunted solo just walking the woods scaring up rabbits to kill.
I don't know of anyone who has beagles that are used for hunting. I'm now 73 and haven't hunted in decades. I only know of a couple who use their labs for duck hunting now.

I had a pack of beagles as a kid. The sound of beagle music gives me goosebumps. Haven't been in forty years or more. Would love to do it again.

Yea we had beagles to run them.
Fondly remember going to
Buy/trade dogs with my dad…
Or lose a dog, and finally get that call from another hunter that they found it.
As a kid, my favorite part was making a fire by the truck and eating snacks with my grandpa lol

I used to have a club on the property I managed that ran beagles all the time. They took a few weeks off for deer season then ran dogs until it was too hot for them.
Never saw them shoot a rabbit, but I’d go out there from time to time to watch the chase.
