The left keeps saying we cannot imprison our way out of crime.

Why not?

Of course we can.
Setting criminals free sure as shite ain't helping.

Because we keep releasing people on bail who have committed dozens of crimes.
Studies have shown a small number of thugs commit the vast majority of crimes in their communities. Common sense says scoop these up and they never see daylight again.

Make prison time to be hard time.
Chain gangs working in the swamp.
Make the experience something that no one would ever want to go through again.

It's a statistical fact that majority of violent crime is committed by the same people. For goodness sakes, it's common for some horrendous crime to make the news, then find out the perp has a rap sheet a mile long. Remove these assholes from society after they offend, and crime rates drop like a rock!

I agree - we should shoot a lot more of the people we currently imprison.

It's another leftist talking point that seems really pithy but is actually idiotic and the opposite of reality.

Agree.
We have just witnessed a side-by-side A/B test.
Incarcerate vs Release.
The experiment is complete and everyone can see which method works best.

60% of violent criminals become repeat offenders and do so within 18 months (avg) of being released. Keep them locked up and the crime rate plummets.
ETA: Link from U.S. Sentencing Commission
1% of the population is responsible for 68% of violent crimes.

Since 1970, the prison population has increased by 500%
Do you suspect the crime rate increased or decreased proportionately?
Despite making up close to 5% of the global population, the U.S. has more than 20% of the world’s prison population.

This speaks to the failure of the CJ system to rehabilitate the people in state custody.

I agree 500% isn't nearly enough.

US population in 1970, 203m... 2025 population, 342m.
More than that... immigrant population in 1970 was approx 10m, it is now approximately 52m
Our overall population increased by nearly 70%... whereas our immigrant population has increased by 420%.
Make of that what you will.
