NEW: "Mississippi-made soul singer" Christian artist "Solomon Ray" hits the number one spot for gospel music, is not a real person.
Christian artists are speaking out after the AI singer hit the No. 1 spot on the iTunes and Billboard charts.
"At minimum, AI does not have the Holy Spirit inside of it. So I think that's really weird to be opening up your spirit to something that has no spirit," said Christian music artist Forrest Frank.
"It’s difficult to envision a future where we look back and think creating AI was a net positive for our world. At most it should be a tool for humans, not a replacement for them," said Christian singer-songwriter Phil Wickham.
"I’m honestly still wrestling with the whole ai music thing. Can it be a tool to speed up a rather long tedious process - yes. But can it also be used as a crutch instead of finding inspiration and direction from Holy Spirit - also yes. Regardless - I’m believing God will be magnified regardless," said singer Colton Dixon.
We’re cooked

That's more insulting than the normal AI slop

People are so dumb. It’s like they’re flocking to it specifically because it’s AI. It’s the only reason it’s #1.

I’d also venture that the demand for gospel is very low so any blip shoots pretty high pretty quickly

Making fun of gospel, especially gospel + AI is the opposite of edgy.

Wonder which mega church owner is making all the money off it.

Its not #1 on the Billboard charts. Its number one on a very specific subsect of the billboard charts which is like "purchased songs". No one does this anymore. Which means every week someone spends like $3000 (im not exaggerating) and gets their AI song on the top of that sublist and then someone makes an article like this about it.

Is he insinuating that all Christian music comes from direct inspiration from the Holy Spirit? Because that's bullshite as well.
If people want to listen to AI music, then have at it. Some of it is actually pretty good...hell, the song in that tweet was sort of catchy. I've heard some AI versions of songs that I really liked, and some that were pretty shitty. I also still like/love regular music more than ever, so I'll always listen to that. And since I mostly listen to older music I generally dislike most new shite anyway (but not always).
It does beg the question of who gets paid for this though. Regardless of what chart this is #1 on, that comes with it some sort of money, so who is getting that? Is it the people that simply typed "make a black singer sing a soulful song about God" into an AI generator? The company that created the AI?
All these musicians whining about AI reminds me of when they used to whine about Napster back in the day. Sure, this is a bit different since it's a new form of crafting music and is more of a direct competitor to them, but the music industry was fine back then and I'm sure it'll be just fine now. People entertaining AI music and preferring that to the "real thing" and concerts and whatnot are two different things.
Just my $0.02.

I hate to admit it but I do like some of this AI generated music.
This soul cover of Lighting Crashes is probably my favorite....

Mixed feelings.
I hate AI. What i like about this fictional Solomon guy, though, is simply putting the scripture to music. That resonates with me where endless repetition of a pat phrase does not. Maybe Wickham and Co. should look at themselves in the mirror.
