When you leave your pet at one of these places. Do you think you’re getting your actual pets ashes back or just a pile of random ashes?

I want to believe it’s my dog but I have a hard time believing.

You have to pay extra to get your pet back, otherwise it’s mass cremation.

I doubt it. One of the places near me offers a private vs communal cremation where you don't get the ashes back. I have no idea what I'd actually do with or want my dog's ashes for. Maybe bury them in the back yard?

My dog is old (13) and wasn't doing so hot a while back so I've been looking at this stuff.

I dug through my dog's box of ashes and found his gold tooth, so I know it's his ashes.

I bury mine. Why are you spending money doing this?

How deep do you bury a pet to keep the raccoons and vermin from digging it up?

Got mine back. He is on my dresser next to his portrait with a vial of his fur.

same with her collar as well

I know it doesn’t make much of a difference but dang wouldn’t that be a huge scam if some places did that. Toss your beloved pet in a pile.

I would be shocked if it’s not at least a mix of other people’s pets

Pet Cremation

Crazy that this topic came up today, just found out that my oldest cat has cancer and hopefully has a month or two left.

No different than a human cremation.
You're a fool if you believe the contents are 100% your loved one.
I'll never forget picking up Mom's ashes in 2018.
They seemed so much heavier than when I picked up Dad's in 2010.
I forgot about Mom's double titanium hip implants.

Here is an ongoing case in Colorado where a mortuary gave Families fake ashes for their human family members and just left bodies to rot. I am pretty sure if there are people doing this with humans there are also people doing this with pets.

That said, I have the ashes of my good girl we lost in February on a shelf by pics of her and our kids.

The podcast “Noble” about the crematorium in the southeast that did this is an incredible listen

I had my very large dog cremated, but it’s the ceramic pawprint and the hair clippings and the pics/videos that I looked to in the months of grief that followed. Never even opened the ashes. He’s not really “there” either way is how I saw it.

It was something like $100 to have my dog cremated or $250 to have her cremated and get her ashes back. For that extra they better be at least trying, but I doubt it also.

I love my pets but I couldn’t see ever wanting to keep their ashes

Have you tried burying them in that place up beyond the deadfall of trees?

We have one cat and one dog on a shelf next to pictures of each. The other 9 that have passed got buried on the back of the property.

frick a shovel! Backhoes FTW.
The horses got cremated or an acid bath at LSUSVM. Ain’t digging a hole for a horse. Excavator or not.
