"...as I'd just like to keep my team and fanbase on edge right before the biggest game of our regular season, which has playoff consequences. Yes. I'm going to wait until Saturday."

Guys, he's gone. Question is Florida or LSU. All evidence points to LSU.

Force ole miss hand to up the ante

Longer it takes the more he stands to gain. Both sides outbidding the other

1) Let OM figure out if they can make a last ditch effort.

2) Allows the perception of no distractions during rivalry week.

I don't think that you can look at all of this logically and not arrive at the same conclusion... He is gone

Because he wants to coach them in the Egg Bowl and finish the season with his team.

Lane's an odd dude, but I think he genuinely wants to coach this team all the way through the end. The timing won't allow it unfortunately, but it will allow him to finish the regular season.

You can tell he really does love Oxford.

Because he probably wants to finish the season out with his players?

Can you imagine how hated Lane would be in Oxford if they lose the Egg Bowl, he announces he's staying at Ole Miss, and it is perceived that Lane costed them a playoff spot trying to squeeze more money out of them?

There is zero reason to put Ole Miss through this if you're staying. If, however, you plan to leave but want to coach the last game of the regular season, it makes complete sense.

Tough spot. Could mean that Lane hadn’t signed anything yet so anything could happen

Yep.

Ole Miss has one more week to sweeten the pot and talk him into staying.

The NY Giants could make a play.

Anything can happen.

I think he winds up staying at OM. Sincerely hope I am wrong.

I can’t look at it logically and conclude that either side would want him around for the egg bowl if he knew he was gone. I also can’t logically conclude that they wouldn’t immediately announce it if he was staying.

Thus I arrive at option 3: He genuinely hasn’t made a decision or is still playing the bid game and ole miss is in no position to force his hand. Next weekend announcement is the compromise they arrived at.

I’m sure the team will be laser focused with this circus going on.

If he was going to do that then no need for the delayed clown show. He is leaving and staying for the team I believe.

My guess is OM asked for extra time to try to counter and Lane, on advice of Sexton (who was probably in the meeting virtually), said yes.

It is possible that Lane has not made a decision even with last best offers from all parties.

The only possibility that I cannot see is that he has told OM he is staying.

At this point, I strongly lean towards no decision has been communicated to any of the three schools (even if he has decided and told Sexton what he is doing). He now has an extra week to rake in more money for himself, assistants, and NIL.
