The board is acting like he's prime Saban. He's a "good" coach. But he has a lot of flaws - loyalty being a big one and inexcplicably dropping winnable games is another.

Would he be a good hire for LSU? Probably, but I don't think the gap between him and the next tier is worth the amount of mania going on here.

This is the same guy who more often than not, lost to Kelly, including last year when it was their best team ever. Not like LSU's roster is stacked either.

I think people get caught up in the names, the memes, the stupid social media trolling, etc. and not the actual substance. Same reason you see people still talking about Gruden two decades after he was relevant.

May the downvotes rain.

they aren't going to take kindly to this truth.

Lane is a good coach.

The size of his luggage is definitely more than what is in the luggage.

My take all along:

No one in the history of the sport has EVER failed up as much as Lane.

He’s a 50 year old, offensive play calling head coach. LSU has been yearning for this.

I think the biggest thing with Kiffin is you know what you are going to get from him. You would effectively be paying for 9 wins being the floor and would be in the playoff conversation most years. Add that to the fact he is still relatively young and has gotten better at each stop then you get what you have now

Nope. I wouldn’t pay him above six million personally but not my money. Just remember the coach we fired has a better sec record than him

The hype and news cycle is way more chaotic than the reality of negotiations and getting the terms of a contract ironed out.

In other words, it seems chaotic to you but really its the same stuff as it always is on the agent/coach side of things.

So kinda maybe worth it?

No, I think he’s overrated as a coach. Takes a lot of unnecessary risks like going for it on your own 25 yard line when you’re up by 9 points late in the 3rd Quarter. However, from a PR and recruiting perspective, he is a big time hire.

It’s a fair question to ask.

No one knows who the absolute best coach is.

Brian Kelly was a damn good hire. When we hired him, until he wasn’t.

Agree he's a good coach, but yet to enter that elite tier. Let's see what he does with Louisiana talent and LSU resources backing him before we dub him the next Saban.

No. He's not.
He's probably going to be a "pretty good" coach. We'll probably get 10-wins most of the time... but we fired a guy who did that mid-season not too long ago...
