Wife’s Debit Card Hacked Again

OT I need to vent. Mrs Prez informed me this morning that her debit card was hacked. Again. This is like the 10th time in the last 3 years. She has an account with her credit union that was hacked last month. She asked me “Why does this keep happening? I don’t understand.”
Well, the reason is because she keeps buying stupid Chinese crap from sketchy websites. This latest incident was a 6’ light up bow she saw on Facebook. What we needed that for, no clue. She even said “guess we’ll see if this is a scam.”
Why is this so hard for women to understand? Why do we have to buy everything we see in stupid ads on instagram? My debit card has been hacked once, and it was because of a data breach at lostgolfballs.com. They even emailed me when it happened. I had $500 charged at a bodega in New York. Most everything I use PayPal or Apple Pay and I don’t buy shite from sketchy sites.

Use debit card for ATM only. Credit cards for everything else.

If she likes buying from those sites because of cost she needs to start a Robinhood account or something similar. Add what you want to spending then use this card for overseas purchases so you aren’t ever worried about it getting hacked.

do NOT let her use a debit card. That should be the first step. Get her some credit card with a small limit.

New wife needed with strict guidelines on behavior and habits. And you will need a two year trial period and she has to maintain her own account and business. She screws up, you walk.

Also - I hope you just use “debit” as a catch all phrase and she’s not really using debit. Not that it is immune to theft; but use a credit card.
