What does it say about our economy that it requires cheap (often illegal) labor to survive

Remove all the ‘cheap’ labor and what happens next?

I am guessing we are one of the top countries for earnings...point being what countries don't pay low wages for the "cheap labor" jobs?

The same thing that happened last time when we took the democrats slaves away.

Hope you're not serious. It doesn't need it one bit.

It says we give too much to our kids without them have to earn it and now we've got a really lazy society

It means CEO pay got out of control at the expense of normal people

It’s not that it requires cheap labor, it’s that it requires more people because we aren’t producing them. Our population pyramid has failed. It is supposed to look like a pyramid. Instead it’s looking like an obelisk with a narrowing base. We don’t have nearly enough people in their 20s and 30s to do the jobs that need to be done and pay into social security and fund the government. I am always amazed at the immigration purists on here who just pretend we have a workable system if we stop letting in immigrants, not to mention kicking them out.
I am in favor of Trump’s drastic reduction of illegal immigration, but what we need now is a drastic increase in legal immigration, and we should be recruiting those immigrants from lands and peoples that roughly share our values (like Europeans, Christian Arabs, well educated Indians, Russians, etc.) But to pretend we can get by without this is a fantasy.

This is how it has always been since the 1850s on

Remove minimum wage, eliminate 90% of entitlements over a 10 year period, remove the ACA, remove 90% of regulation and unsubsidize everything. There, I fixed the American economy. 70% of American will hate me, but that’s what has to be done.

It says American Corporations have sold out the American worker for bigger margins.
They are doing it in conjunction with our representatives.
No right minded individual would agree to import millions of H1-B’s to compete against in the workplace. It reduces job prospects wage growth… and generally reduces quality of life.
If cheap labor were the key to success, why aren’t India and Mexico super powers?

We parrot this without a lot of thought/discussion.
Why do we need a demographic pyramid? I'm asking in a practical sense - with technology advancing as it does, why can't we have a thriving economy with a population that levels off or even dips some?

The American value system is completely broken, and probably never recovers.
It's just pure consumerism driven by only pleasure and spending money on our carnal, unending needs.
Nothing more.

I agree with this. But it’s exacerbated by companies exploiting people’s urges to get them to consume more. So the companies can keep growing forever.

Government needs to hook all the fatties up with free Ozempic so they quit costing us a fortune in healthcare and be fit enough to be productive members of society. We wouldn't have to worry about birth rate because less people will be dying from being fat.

It says you are a bitch.
Just go to your Starbucks and drink your goat milk latte that some slave picked the beans for. Liberals are so clueless to their own behaviors.

That doesn't say nearly as much as the fact that if the federal government were to cut enough spending to only balance the budget it would send the country into a recession, possibly even a depression.

Maybe AI will deliver that, but that is a leap of faith at this point.
