DESOTO CO., Miss. (WMC) - The DeSoto County Pro Rodeo has been canceled due to a virus outbreak among horses.
The rodeo was canceled due to “an abundance of caution” due to a nationwide outbreak of the equine herpes virus (EHV-1).
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, EHV-1 primarily causes upper respiratory disease and abortions/stillbirths in horses.
In some cases, it can cause a neurological disease called herpes myeloencephalopathy, which can be fatal.
The disease is spread through nose-to-nose contact or contaminated equipment.
The rodeo will now take place on December 12 and 13 at the DeSoto County Agri-Education Center in Nesbit.
Officials say the DeSoto County Agri-Education Center has not been impacted by this outbreak, but the postponement will help protect the health and well-being of the horses.

Current outbreak started in TX. Three stricken horses are currently being held in quarantine at LSU SVM.
Serious health risk if you are a horse owner.

Yes, goats can get herpes viruses, specifically Caprine herpesvirus 1 (CpHV-1). This virus can cause various health issues in goats, including respiratory and reproductive tract infections.

Well those poor animals have to constantly worry about contracting STDs from Muslims and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

Did the herpes come from those monkeys that got loose a few weeks ago?

Lots of equestrian events have been canceled across the entire US.
With the NFR starting in Vegas in 2 weeks this is a huge issue

If you are horse owner, this is a big deal.
Events here in FL are ramping up the health requirements in order to participate in response to this. If not canceling.
