LET THE DOWNVOTES COMMENCE!!! TL;DR!!!

He is currently in his fourth year as a head coach. He spent two years at Troy and is in his second year at Tulane. His head coaching record at those two lower tier football schools is 40-11. But, even more impressive, look at 8 of those 11 losses:

TROY

2022: at Ole Miss;
at App State (a 6 point road loss to App State the week after they beat Texas A&M on the road)

2023: at Kansas State;
James Madison (a 2 point loss to a Curt Cignetti coached JMU)

TULANE

2024: Kansas State (7 point loss);
at Oklahoma (it was 24-19 in the fourth quarter);
Florida in the bowl game

2025: at Ole Miss

Oh, and this year, they beat TWO Power 5 schools, blowing out Northwestern (who has looked very competitive in the Big 10 this year) and Duke (who beat Clemson and has been more competitive than not in the ACC this year), and beat Memphis at Memphis (who beat Arkansas in Memphis this year)

I remember when his name was one of the first to pop up several people on here making fun because he beat Duke as though that were something to scoff at when he coaches at frickin Tulane.

I think he really could be the next Cignetti. But, we'll go out and hire Kiffin for $60 million for four years and be right where we are now in 4 years.

I’m with ya.

Recency bias is a bitch, and LSU would never hire the Tulane coach.

Someone will get a good one.

I think he’d do a great job here. But this board has turned into Kiffin or hire is shite.

I watched his team struggle at Memphis the other day in the second half and get pummeled at Ole Miss.

I’m not sold.

No, Sumrall is just the next iteration of the "one of us!" Candidates that wouldn't even be discussed if he was coaching out of state.

There's plenty of Candidates that are superior to him.

i don't disagree with most of your post, but this quote is absolutely silly.

Napier is a good coach. Sometimes coaches and programs don’t mesh but you don’t win 11 games multiple times at ULL if you’re a bad coach.

Same opinion I have of Scott Frost

WILLIE FRITZ built Tulane back up to being a competitive program, not Sumrall. Sumrall HAS maintained it though. Some coaches suffer from "Archer's Syndrome" when taking over a Program and let it decline back into Irrelevance. (Did yall hear the recent Jaques Doucet interview with Mike Archer? Very good and worth listening to)

I watched a total of one offensive series from Tulane this year. WR screen to the left. And then two running plays up the middle for no gain. Been there, done that. Nope

Good coach. I went to several games those 2 years he was at Troy...pretty exciting for Sunbelt football...going back to back winning the conference.

That being said, obviously unproven at the P4 level. Wouldn't be a homerun hire for anybody, but a solid double.

Why? Chances are that Kiffin or any coach will probably fall short and average 3 losses a season. So you pay 15 million a year and you get NO significant upgrade other than fancier QB play.

LSU isn’t hiring him. OM or Auburn.

This narrative needs to die. When Fritz left 60 players from Tulane hit the portal. He had nothing except Mensah coming back. Also, Troy won 5 games in three seasons before he went there. They won 10+ in both his seasons there. Is he ready for a job like LSU or Auburn? Probably not, but he will be an excellent coach at a big program

If we want the next Cignetti, then LSU should hire his right hand man. His OC Mike Shanahan has been with him since JMU, and there is no better candidate to run Cignetti's offense/system.
