New Dan Wetzel Article on Lane Kiffin

quote:
Lane Kiffin will always regret it if he quits on his Ole Miss team.
He'll always have remorse if he decides to go take another job -- Florida or LSU -- right on the verge of leading a likely 11-1 Rebels team into the College Football Playoff. He'll never live down the fact he turned his back on a locker room ready to fight with him for a national title -- all for the perceived greener grass of Gainesville or Baton Rouge.
quote:
Kiffin may be free to walk from the Rebels, but everyone else is free to judge him if he does.
If he does, that judgment won't be positive.
quote:
His success has made him a coveted coaching candidate, with two big-time programs seemingly willing to do anything to get him -- including ignoring the fact that they are hiring a guy who would walk out on the eve of the postseason.
In a perfect world, this decision would take place after the Ole Miss season. That isn't how the calendar works, though. UF and LSU need a coach. Returning talent needs to be convinced to stay. Recruits need to be identified.
quote:
That said, members of Kiffin's family -- including ex-wife Layla and son Knox, a high school sophomore -- visited Gainesville and Baton Rouge in recent days, ESPN and others reported.
quote:
In different circumstances, he could go; maybe he even should go.
Not in these circumstances, though. Not at this time. Not with a team this good, at a school this supportive, in a season this magical.
Certainly not without causing everyone to wonder if Al Davis was right all along.

This is a bull shite, hit job article.
Ole Miss -- not Lane -- decided to switch up the game on how coaching searches have worked since coaching searches began. None of this was going to occur publicly or visibly until Ole Miss gave him a deadline ("not an ultimatum") and threatened to take the unprecedented step of firing him just because he might leave next year.
Accusing Lane of turning his back on this year's Ole Miss team because he's considering leaving next year is such tortured logic.
If he leaves before the playoffs, its because Ole Miss threw a tantrum.

If he leaves and continues to win and makes the playoffs no one will remember him doing this.

If you made a list of the top 10 greatest human beings who ever have lived in all of human history, Al Davis would be in that list however, I don’t believe he was correct about Lane Kiffen.

Don’t hate the player, hate the game

Do you think most give two fricks what that liberal piece of shite thinks? lol

The timing does suck, but that’s on the NCAA. They can set those dates at different times and make this a non-issue.
Lane has to work in the here and now, and the here and now dictates a shitty decision timeline.
This is a once in a generation at Ol’ Miss no doubt, at LSU it’s a once every other year or so opportunity. That’s allowing for seasons where breaks don’t go our way.
That’s should make the decision easier.

He will be judged by it just like Tennessee, and if he falls on his face at the new school he will be made fun of-- but let's not forget Ole Miss is only relevant because of Kiffin. I like Oxford and Ole Miss as a whole, but its only a media darling because of Kiffin-- after he leaves back to Ole Miss is racist articles for ESPN

He’s not wrong even if Kiffin goes to LSU or Florida he might still never have a team this good. If this team gets the right matchups in the playoffs they can win a couple of games.

I’m sure he wants to coach them in the playoffs, he wouldn’t be turning his back. Ole Miss is giving him a deadline and that’s forcing his hand either way.

NO way he really believes this.
ETA: I say that because of Lane Kiffin, not because of Ole Miss.

This is so stupid, good coaches take good jobs every year. Everyone is every facet of life is looking to upgrade their situation. Its completely normal for Kiffin to explore his opportunities and he doesnt owe Ole Miss anything.
