Reality Caught Up to ‘Climate Change’

The climate creed that once ruled unquestioned is cracking as energy needs, geopolitical reality, and basic science force the West to admit carbon isn’t dying anytime soon.

By Victor Davis Hanson

For decades, the monolithic and sacrosanct international climate change hierarchy went unquestioned.

Western nations in particular spent trillions of dollars over the past half-century to subsidize expensive but erratic wind and solar energy while demonizing carbon fuels as toxic threats to the planet.

Like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion dogma, climate change orthodoxy was embedded into every aspect of Western culture, from the corporate boardroom to the university campus.

Question whether man-made global warming was truly responsible for increased temperatures rather than natural, often centuries-long cycles of heating and cooling of the planet, and one was labeled a climate crank.

Everything from declining fertility to forest fires was ridiculously attributed to climate change.

But the causes of both demographic crises and charred landscapes were more likely the result of new affluent lifestyles that saw child-rearing as too expensive and time-consuming, and misguided forest policies or underfunded firefighting.

Yet reality has caught up with the near-religious climate change cult.

Seems like they’ve also stopped saying we’re gonna run out of oil

The term “fossil fuels” was coined by the oil companies to give the illusion of scarcity. In reality the earth just produces this stuff and we’ll never run out

Look up the abiotic oil theory to learn more

Yep and to think people pay money to "climate groups" thinking they'll fix climate change.

This is a very very dumb theory easily disproven by very basic geology. aren’t you the one constantly posting oil and gas articles on the OT and you subscribe to this belief as a petroleum engineer? Or is that another poster?

No but do you believe you’re putting dinosaurs in your car

Seems ridiculous to believe that

so ridiculous to begin with. Yeah, a bunch of dead dinosaurs are responsible for oil deep within the earth.

If we would have taught that 50 years ago we wouldn't have blue haired men (who call themselves women) running and chanting in the streets about nonsense.

It’s not dinosaurs, it’s algae and other organic matter that was abundant millions of years ago

I read this book many years ago. I would definitely recommend giving it a read.

I wonder if Exxon has replaced their graphic design team with ai by now

I disagree with his opinions on Israel. Bigly.

But VDH is truly still one of the most wise people on the political spectrum.

Have you ever worked in oil and gas? People (geologists) make a living identifying conventional and UNCONVENTIONAL (shale aka SOURCE ROCK, you know, where the oil was formed and the majority of the US’s oil independence comes from since the advent of hydraulic fracturing) reservoirs and how to efficiently exploit them? Do you know what the permeability of shale is? It’s in the nanodarcies

Another subset of geologists make a living identifying fossils in the geologic record from drill cuttings to determine what formation and geologic period/depth they are currently. I have ab a 200 page book from one project we worked on if you care to see it.

Never forget buying a plane ticket and the airline offering to sell you "carbon credits" so you could enjoy your trip guilt free.

In terms of the biggest scams of all time, Covid #1 and global warming #2. ... and they both perpetrated by the same people.

And then y’all give the bones to the Smithsonian so they can cover up the existence of the race of red haired giants in North America

yeah we give the microfossils to the Smithsonian so you can see them under a microscope

quote:

Microfossils have many applications to petroleum geology (Fleisher and Lane, in press, Ventress, 1991, LeRoy, 1977). The two most common uses are: biostratigraphy and paleoenvironmental analyses. Biostratigraphy is the differentiation of rock units based upon the fossils which they contain. Paleoenvironmental analysis is the interpretation of the depositional environment in which the rock unit formed, based upon the fossils found within the unit. There are many other uses of fossils besides these, including: paleoclimatology, biogeography, and thermal maturation.

We are currently producing 13.9mmbbls/d, the most of any country in human history

It's not so much individuals, it's governments using tax money. Climate control = Govt power.

I especially appreciate that Bill Gates changed his tune when he realized he needs more electricity to achieve his AI pursuits then he can possibly obtain with a "green" agenda. Suddenly, when his economic needs dictated, he pivoted.

Can we start killing the climate activists now that insist on blocking roadways and defacing art museums and committing other acts of terrorism? Those miserable zealots are due a reckoning.

What's so annoying is how long it took for reality to set in for people.

Well, that plus we need about ten times the power grid to run AI.
