If he goes to another school we can move to the next guy without having to wait until after the portal closes and potentially missing out on a lot of other candidates. Thanks Ole Miss.

That's not how this is going to play out. OM is going to fire him if he doesn't make a decision by the Egg Bowl.

Someone will overpay him, and he is playing all 3 schools against each other which is true to his character - which despite some reports to the contrary, has never changed.
I just hope it's not us giving out another 10 year contract at way more than he's earned.

That would be massively, massively stupid on their part for many reasons.
The ultimatum is all bark no bite, a tactic to get clarity from Lane sooner rather than later, but under no circumstances is OM firing Lane if he doesn’t comply with it.

1. That would be extremely dumb.
2. Even if they do, it gets LSU an answer.
The Ole Miss ultimatum is fantastic news for UF and LSU. Either way those schools can move on with their search.
The worst case is this thing drags out.

What the Hell has he won?

I also think for the sake of recruiting it benefits Lane to make a decision quickly now. With the portal window being a massive part of building a team.

That is what you’re worried about?
IDGAF how big that check is. It’s not my money and absolutely grudge fricking ole Miss during their best season, Since the 50s is worth it alone.

Pretty sure he has a buyout if fired. Not to mention, that would be the stupidest firing of all time. But it would take the attention off of the BK fiasco.

More games than LSU at a lesser school?

I’m not a Lane apologist by any stretch and I get that the guy has done some childish shite over the years, but this is a bad take. People all over the world negotiate to maximize their earnings every day. They’re generally seen as shrewd business people. But if Kiffin does it, it’s a poor reflection on his moral fiber?

It's the system making everyone work against their self-interest. The roster management issues put immense pressure on patience. Supposedly, OM has a replacement in mind (Sumrall), but they have to act as soon as the regular season is over because Sumrall will not pass up the Auburn job if offered on the hope Lane leaves.
Ironically, their best chance of keeping Lane is letting the pressure work for them. Could either LSU or Fl hold their water if OM makes a playoff run? If they make a deep run, the emotional ties to OM would be at the max.
While I would never pick them to win, they would have a chance to win the NC. Personally, I would sacrifice next year for that opportunity. If they force Lane's hand, he leaves, and they lose the Egg Bowl, they might now even make the playoffs (a kind of FSU precedent).

Pretty sure the buyout would have an offset against future earnings. Guess which salary would be bigger: current OM or future LSU/FL.

Or he could just tell Ole Piss he's leaving and let the bidding war continue between Florida, LSU and any place else Sexton can weasel into the mix.

Yes, it does. He will massively hurt his recruiting potential if this somehow goes longer than the portal and HS signing period.

Not likely with or without Kiffin.
