Hey Rebels, is it true that Kiffin has to fish or cut bait by Monday?

I have heard this from my
Ole Miss buddies two different ways but the story is basically the same.

Lane has to agree to the extension if Ole Miss beats Florida and wraps up a playoff spot by Sunday/ Monday am or Ole Miss is cutting the cord and moving on without him.

I have also heard that it's the Sunday after the Mississippi State game. Both stories are the same essentially if Kiffin isn't going to commit to stay in oxford, he isn't going to be coaching in the playoffs. As a alum I hopes he stays but I completely get this move, if true by the administration.

What say ye?

I don't see that happening. Ole Miss will not get rid of him in the middle of a playoff run.

The move makes a lot more sense than I initially thought. Ole Miss is in a horrific spot if Lane coaches in the playoffs and leaves that late in the season. You’d almost surely just promote Golding in late December.

I’m not getting my hopes up, but I can’t shake how optimistic the reliable LSU insiders are on On3. Regardless they seem surpremely confident LSU is going to be successful whale hunting, whether it be Lane or Freeman. What does seem obvious to me is that the “lane having zero interest in LSU” is untrue considering the guys are always money are hinting.

ETA: I read it as end of regular season. No way Ole Miss pushes him out by the egg bowl

I’m sure he’s got our final offer on the table and Sexton has been told “this is it, don’t contact us again without an answer”.

But I seriously doubt an ultimatum has been given

You know there's been no ultimatum given. To think that there has been is just foolish.

OM has zero leverage for a play like that. They should be beyond ecstatic to have what they have.

Don’t think that’s true. Have to have answer by end of regular season.

Ole Miss ain’t doing squat. Ole Miss is praying hard that Lane isn’t leaving but they’re definitely not giving him an ultimatum.

Our "Insiders" are usually the last to know anything. Whether it's recruiting or coaching changes and it's been that way for a while now.

Ole Miss will do everything they can to keep him in Oxford

The programs he might leave for can take him at will; Ole Miss will play every card they can to keep him

People are just scarred from football recruiting. Jackie is about as in tune as on a possibly get. Unlucky on here is money too.

I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to happen, feel confident in that much. Maybe he doesn’t go to LSU but I think it’s hilarious to suggest he has no interest

They’d be incredibly stupid to do something like this. They have no leverage in this situation.

Oh im with you, i just don't think we'll have anything sold until the day before an announcement or maybe even early morning of an announcement. I get it. It's very difficult to predict situations that are so fluid.

Michigan won the 1989 NCAA title with an interim coach. Bo Schembechler fired the head coach before the tournament when it was learned he was going to take another job after the season. This is when the term "Michigan man" was used, as Shembechler fired the coach and said we will have a "Michigan man" coaching our team. Steve Fisher went 6-0 in the NCAAT to win the national title.

Exactly. Especially in the middle of a playoff run. I think he has their best offer, and it’s just a waiting game. I can see them nudging the agent, but that’s really all they can do.
