What are the best WWII movies out there, taking into account historical accuracy?

Some I've seen:

Tora! Tora! Tora! - Feels like something out of a history book.

Midway - Same as above.

Saving Private Ryan - Historical fiction obviously, but the D-Day landing is beyond, for lack of a better word, impressive.

The Caine Mutiny - Also historical fiction and dated.

Downfall - Just finished this one. Not as fast-paced as Saving Private Ryan but just as gruesome in places. Portrays some truly EVIL people.

Others?

Schindler’s List (ironically, I’ve never seen it)
There’s a really good Nuremberg TV movie from the late 90s IIRC that was pretty good.

Actually, you probably are. There's a Hitler rant scene that has been re-subtitled dozens of times so that he was now ranting about any number of things (coaching searches, election results, etc.). The movie depicts the last week or so of his reign in the bunker in Berlin, primarily from the perspective of his secretary and senior officers.

Let me just say that, similar to Dos Equis' The Most Interesting Man in the World, if Eva Braun was anything like she is portrayed in the film, she had to have been The Most Stupid Woman in the World.

It is a German film with English subtitles so no multitasking/playing with your phone.

Feel real but invented plot:
Thin Red Line
Fury
Enemy at the Gates

Historically accurate for the most part:
Letters from Iwo Jima
Dunkirk
Hacksaw Ridge

Watch Band of Brothers. A limited series, not a movie. Lots of good recs in the thread, but an obscure one, and relatively more recent is When Trumpets Fade.

Other than the ones you mentioned:

Patton (George Scott is more Patton than Patton was)

Letters from Iwo Jima/Flags of our Fathers

The Longest Day

U-571 (fictional but still worth watching)

Battle of the Bulge

MacArthur

Das Boot
