My old Marlin 61 is not feeding rounds into the chamber. I guess it's the cartridge lifter. I as looking at the Savage AR 22. Anyone have any experience with them ?

Buddy has one and loves it. I haven't heard of any problems with it from him and have shot it a few times. It's a sweet little rig.

Same boat with my older 22 and have several Savage's that I like but for this role the only answer was Ruger 10/22 and now kicking myself for not getting one sooner

I keep looking at the 10/22's also, they just look ugly to me. I think it's that barrel band.

Not the prettiest rifle in my safe but there's a literal ton of aftermarket and ways to tailor them.

As for the barrel band, look at the 10/22 Sporter model, it comes with a better stock, free floating barrel and no barrel band

Academy has a wood stock ruger 10/22 for $249. Threaded barrel. Saw it and almost bought it but don’t need it. Another day.

Sorry, that's not my rifle, I just found a good pic of a Sporter model to show you one w/o the band. I have a Carbine w the barrel band that I paid $190 for this past summer.

I'll agree that one looks better than my carbine, but for the price I paid vs Sporter I can live with the band and always delete it when I start customizing mine

10/22 is the standard.

From there in the AR style look at the S&W M&P 15-22. Great little rifle. Accurate and reliable

If you want to spend more look at the Browning SA-22. It’s in my opinion the best semi .22 ever made. It’s the original take-down model.

Personally, the 10/22 platform is the best. Lots of options for upgrades available as well.
My son has one of the Smith and Wesson AR 22s. I really like that one as well. Lots of parts are interchangeable w regular AR parts. That makes it nice.
I also have a regular AR w the 22 conversion kit. Changed the .223 barrel, which worked fine at closer ranges, for a 22 long rifle barrel. Very accurate and dependable shooter. A hoot with a suppressor just like a 10/22 is.

Do yourself a favor, and take a look at the Henry 22LR.

The lever action is like butter.
Accurate right out of the box using iron sites.
Very popular and has plenty accessories.

Lever action .22 is way more fun and enjoyable to shoot than a boring semi-auto.

Plus, they are an American made firearm.

This is tempting. Included 22lr and 22 wmr barrels. Takes Ruger 10/22 mags. Not an auto, though. Figured some folks here might be interested.

This one is also tempting. Semi-auto, 10/22

Bought my 10/22 used in 81. Never has let me down. As for a pistol. Ruger Mark 2 Bull barrel can not be beat. Targets to Armadillos and running a trap line. I have no intention of replacing either one

My son is interested in target shooting for 4H and YHEC. I have an old Marlin but the .22 has to be a bolt action so it would give me a reason to buy a new gun! The CZ 457 Scout was recommended. Anyone else has one?
