My camp chef crapped out on me and im looking for an upgrade. Anyone have any experience with Recteq? Ive heard great things about them.

Im in between the weber searwood and the recteq dualfire 1200.. the separate sear box on the dualfire is a huge selling point.. and apparently it can get up to 800 degrees which is perfect for a quick reverse sear. The dualfire is on sale right now for 300 off

Would love to hear thoughts from someone who has either. Thanks in advance!

Have a 1600. No complaints except not as much smoke as my old WSMs. But the convenience is great! Will prob get the built in version at the next house.

I had a bullseye. Loved it when it worked. Kind of a piece of shite. Everyone I know with a Recteq has had to do some form of repair/fix to it.

Took a sledgehammer to mine when the 30th thing I tried to do to fix my problem didn’t work.

I own 3. Two of the old 310 “mini’s” and one 780. The first mini I bought developed a dime sized bubble in the paint with rust underneath. I called customer service to ask about touch up paint and they sent me out a brand new grill the same day. No questions asked.

I have not had any issues with the replacement mini or the 780.

The original mini is at my mom’s house now. Last year it developed a problem and I had to deal with customer service. Instead of someone immediately answering the phone, I had to leave a message and wait for a call back. I told the tech the control board was bad. He made me go through some tests and he decided it was the auger motor. Since it was way out of warranty, I had to pay for a new auger motor. It came in and that was not the problem. It was the control board after all. It took a couple of days for customer service to respond that time, which really frustrated me. With that said, they sent me out a new WiFi control board free of charge since I had already bought the auger motor.

Overall their customer service has gone downhill from what they were in the beginning. For the money, I believe the Reqtec’s are worth it though. I would certainly buy another one if I need a grill.

I’ve had an RT700 for five years and never had any problems. Works as advertised and has lived up to the hype. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Same. Could have written this verbatim for myself.

I have a bullseye. You have to clean it religiously because it doesn't have a grease trap. If you don't, you will burn up something and have to repair it. For the price, I like it but it definitely has it's issues.

Similar experience here. It was fun and worked well when it worked. In the year and a half I owned it I had to replace the auger and then a controller burnt out. It’s sitting on the porch rusting away while I go back to my old Weber kettle.

I've had a 700 for years it's great, like an outdoor oven where you can set a temp and add a smoke or grill flavor to anything vs an oven indoors. I bought oversize and may wind up buying a bullseye so i can get really high temps. The 700 will get to 500, but it takes time, most of my cooking is at 400 unless I am doing ribs or pork butts.

I have one, it has electronic issues. Temp will start dropping until I turn it completely off and restart. Then it's fine. Others I know have had quirky shite like that. The food is amazing I must say.

So how difficult are they to work on when there’s a problem? I’m in market for one as well and most of the 1 star reviews are dealing with electrical issues or huge temp swings.

Sometimes easy sometimes not.

I had to replace the thermometer on mine which was a relatively easy fix.
I had to replace the computer on mine which was a relatively easy fix.
It cut off on me multiple times on long smokes when the temperature was set on low. They are very very very finicky below 225 degrees.
I had to remove a stuck auger from the tunnel on mine which is what ultimately made me take a sledgehammer to it. I had an 18" long drill bit that i was drilling through the auger to try and get out the pellets that turned to cement. I legit spent 10 hours drilling and prying and pressure washing and propane torching that fricking thing and never could get it out.
I called their customer service for the 10th time after all of their proposed fixes didn't work and had the rep tell me "I've never had one I couldn't get unstuck so you shouldn't have thrown it out".
I ratchet strapped the end of the auger to a fence post and cranked on it so hard the entire grill almost broke in half and it still would not come out.

I'm not the only one with that auger issue, I've had two friends have their auger get stuck but they were luckily able to get it out after hours of working on it.

With all the known issues and constant repairs required on them I will never buy another thing from them. I don't want to buy something and have to constantly be working on it/fixing things.

I have an older 590. I only use it for butts, ribs and an occasional brisket. With the right pellets it turns out really good meats. Only issue is keeping exhaust vents clean, if they get clogged(which is often) it cooks like shite with not enough airflow. The new 590 has a stack I think, so shouldn’t be a problem. Never had any other issues in 5 years.

Same... going on 6 years old with zero issues.

I also have a bullseye, and I'm not really a fan of it. Even at super hot temps, I find it hard to get a good sear using it. It also feels thin compared to the 590 and I think it'll rust through in the next year or so.

So far, so good.

I’m with glock and tigerfoot.
I have the 590 and never had any issues with it. My dumbass got water all in the auger one time and I thought the whole thing was toast. Took it apart and got all the water out. Put it back together and it works fine. No huge temp swings or anything. 5 years old
