NEW: Openly gay ABC News anchor Gio Benitez joins the Catholic church with his husband serving as his sponsor.
Benitez says his confirmation mass at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle in Manhattan was inspired by the late Pope Francis.
"My deepest gratitude to Fr. Eric Andrews, Fr. James Martin, Fr. Paul Rospond, and Fr. Chris Lawton for showing me that God’s loving mercy is unconditional..." he said on IG.
"And [thanks] to my incredible husband and sponsor Tommy DiDario for supporting me through it all."
It’s not just protestants in Europe

quote:God's saving love is absolutely conditional. Jesus said to "repent and believe" for eternal life. We have a responsibility to turn away from our sins and obey God as He has commanded as an evidence of the salvation that we have through Christ.

If this guy is an unrepentant homosexual, he should have no expectation that he is saved. If he were saved, the Spirit would be convicting him to repent of his homosexuality.
ETA: I should clarify that God's general love of benevolence is unconditional, but His saving love is particular to His elect, and His elect will most certainly repent and trust in Christ. There is no one whom God loves in election that will continue in unrepentant sin. Whom He foreloved, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, Jesus. Those who do not repent show no evidence of God's saving love towards them.

Every denomination has gone liberal except the Southern Baptists. Which makes sense considering they were the first. Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist and He was from the south of Jerusalem

For confirming him into the church? lol
We would do that for anyone who wants to find God.
its not like they got married in the church.
Keep reaching.

Christian churches in America have always had gender related issues with each other. In 1640 an Anglican visited a Quaker ceremony in Pennsylvania featuring a female minister's sermon. He wrote in his diary:
"It reminded me of a friend who taught his dog to walk on it's hind legs. They can do it. But they're not very good at it."

Exactly.

More importantly, female pastors are forbidden, biblically

This.
There are a lot of openly gay people in the catholic church.

After decades of covering up and enabling child sexual abuse, this is what finally does it for you?

To be confirmed into the church, do you not need to confess and repent? I'm not Catholic, so, serious question.

He's a child of God?
Nope, not even close. But you would know that if you actually lived by the Bible and not just selectively edited
quote:
Acts 13:10
“O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?”
Theres more
quote:
Romans 1:27-29
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
quote:
reprobate: to condemn strongly as unworthy, unacceptable, or evil

As a Catholic - there are sacraments where you can turn people away... and some where it's a much greyer line.
This is performative, most likely, on the Bishops part which is the bigger problem than Confirming a practicing homosexual.
But everyone who is confirmed is struggling with sin. Period.

Catholics don’t recognize gay marriages or bless them. Hate the sin not the sinner.

This is not the Catholic church.
IF you are not in communion with the Vatican and the Holy See you are not Catholic.
Neither the Vatican nor any Pope has ever permitted or condoned a marriage by anyone other than 1 man and 1 woman (both being free of mortal sin) to be considered married in the Holy Sacrament of Marriage established by God.
The claim in this OP is akin to saying men and become pregnant and bring forth a new life into the world.
S If he is a gay man in an open and confessed relationship with another gay man he is therefore in a state of mortal sin and cannot under cannon law receive any sacrament of the Catholic church i.e. Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist, Reconciliation (or Penance/Confession), Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony.
Furthermore, clergy who knowingly give these sacraments to those who are outside of the requirements are themselves outside of their duties and any such scarcement is not valid and the clergy risks excommunication.
So as a Catholic this story neither offends me nor makes me angry. It's a non story because it does not involve the Catholic church nor does it reflect on the Catholic church as a whole in union with the Vatican and Cannon law.

True.
But struggling with sin is not the same as happily, unrepentantly living in sin. There truly is a distinction.

Wait till you find out how many openly gay people join heaven.

This is a low IQ comparison to the purple haired nonbinary pastor marrying 4 dudes/trans in the church.

So was Ted Bundy. Do you have a point....other than the one on your head?

Dude, there gays in churches everywhere and it's not yours or my decision on their soul. All we can do is pray for their turning.
