More than 3,600 students at the college of roughly 31,000 receive aid through SNAP, said Emily Tupper, the college’s director of Crisis Assistance and Resource Education Support. More than 200,000 college students in California and 1.1 million nationwide are on SNAP, according to the state’s Department of Social Services and the U.S. Government Accountability Office, respectively.

Many students are facing tuition and housing bills, juggling classes, and often working lower paying part-time jobs that make it difficult to afford groceries, with prices on the rise.

Young women with children is more common now

Older women going to school is more common now

I imagine those 2 demographics comprise a huge amount of that population

I have had a few sorority girls knocking on my door wanting to "clean" my home lately. The number has increased substantially and I do have a clean home.

I remember once finding a quarter in college and realizing I could now afford a whopper Jr which was $1.06 at the time.

I didnt even know what SNAP was.

Oh look, another instance where government took over and prices are unaffordable. But I’m sure some dipshit here will blame it on “greedy corporations “ and not leftist governance.

I didn't know of any, but could be cause it wasn't my social group.

Though we did assume athletes took advantage of all the free shite they could get and the AD helped them.

I hope now in the nil era they don't have access to free shite like pell grants, etc.

No way....you mean to tell me they have expenses for things like food and tuition....and they are broke as undergrad students.

I don't remember anybody throwing a telethon for me or other guys in my dorm.

Same here. We only had one kid with money problems at Centenary back then. He was an Indian student who got arrested in my dorm for writing bad checks at expensive restaurants. He thought his checks were good regardless of amount as long as he still had checks in the checkbook his had gave him. His dad bailed him out and took his dumb arse back to New Delhi.

We bought them from the bum outside the liquor store back in the 90’s. $200 of stamps for $100. Plus no tax.

Every year, I pick out 1 or 2 YouTubers who post hiking videos and watch them attempt to through hike the Appalachian Trail. This year, I watched a 23 year old girl and her mom attempt the trek. They were from the Bay Area in CA. The daughter talked about acing the MCAT and her future career in medicine. She studied abroad in Ireland. She had top of the line hiking gear and watched shows on Netflix at night. The daughter had a friend in NYC and visited her twice during the 7 months it took to hike the trail. She went to Broadway shows and shopped for a dress to wear to a relative’s wedding. She joked how the people in GA and SC didn’t know how to make a good chai latte. She got a nice apartment in Philadelphia while hiking so she could move there and attend school after the hike. She now works as a nanny for a family with a couple of kids.

In one of her last videos on the trail, she complained that she was looking forward to using her EBT card because it would have a few month’s of credit on it but someone hacked her account and stole “her” money.

We do not allow any type of video or photography whatsoever within the confines of the home.

I had a roommate in college (1976) that had food stamps. His parents had divorced when he was young, Neither was clamming him as a dependent so he was able to qualify.

You Imagine? That totally tracks. Guess what, college students on stamps means you should be working instead of going to school. Regardless, half of these enrollees are Immigrants and Half of those immigrants came in the country illegally during the Biden Admin. I have yet to see anyone truly suffering in this country, anyone at any risk of starving, or anyone complaining about snap without an Iphone. This is all theatrics and I'm done with dramakids and queens.
