Killing the filibuster is no guarantee of anything

With senators like Collins, Murkowski, McConnell, Paul, and Cassidy...would the Rs even have the votes to kill it?
And even if they did, you better believe those names above may be just the "moderates" the Ds need to keep anything of substance getting passed.
Can you imagine actually killing it...and STILL getting nothing done due to the straddlers!

Senator Mamdani will run wild if it's eliminated

You are correct.
There's no guarantee that the moderates would go along with removing the filibuster or the succeeding attempts at legislation. Similar to when the moderate Democrats did the same thing previously

The filibuster must stay

That's exactly why I believe it's a bad idea. Short of guarantees from those particular senators it may not only be wasted but precedent would be set and gloves would be off going forward.

The Republicans absolutely do not have 50 votes to kill the filibuster. Murkowski, Collins, and McConnell are absolutely NO votes. They aren’t batting 50 for 50 on the remaining senators.
The only solution is to continue to hold votes on a clean CR highlighting that the democrats are not voting to reopen the government and are thus hurting Americans.

I'll go a step further. Say you successfully nuke the filibuster and get enough votes to pass legislation, how much survives a court challenge?
Mandatory voter ID and banning mail in ballots will get struck down with a quickness because states control their own elections.

You just know that Schumer and the Dems WANT the Rs to kill it. They will tie up any voting legislation that passes in court AND they know a few R senators might cross over anyway.
Do not do it Thune. Stand your ground.

Killing it is a terrible idea. I would rather government inaction than the party in power running amok.

The fed can implement standards for federal elections.

You're probably correct but believe me, when the Dims get a chance they will certainly use the nuclear option.....in the end one side will win and one side will lose and that's where we are.

Not worth getting rid of it. The names mentioned will McCain anything you want. There will be just enough to torpedo everything.

Trump wants to kill it to outlaw mail in voting nationwide, with the idea the GOP would never lose the Senate ever again with fair elections.
While I understand this idea, there is a huge risk that banning mail in voting would lose in a court challenge and then you're left with no guardrails against the lunatic left the next time the Democrats hold the WH and Capitol Hill.

The Senate Democratic makeup in the next 12 years will make Bernie Sanders look like an alt right loon. It’s like slippery slopes don’t exist. These 3rd world commies are getting dolled up and are going to start pushing these moderate non leftist loons into retirement. The next time the Dems have a majority filibuster is history

There it is. The bottom line. The Constitutional Republic is done, one way or the other. Maybe AI can show us how to make what replaces it better.

We clearly know who is responsible for the shut down but the dems will figure out a way that the SNAP (just a small part of it) recipients blame the Republicans.

Are the Dems actually speaking 24/7 like they should to keep the filibuster going?
If not then why are the Republicans letting them get away with it?
Heard very little news on it and would like to know why.
