Back when BK came in, he let guys like Baker, Raymond, Moffitt, etc leave to bring in guys like House, Polian, Cooks, and Steeples.. All of us heavily questioned Cooks and Steeples. They were awful.

Denbrock leaves, and Sloan is named OC. Again, all of us heavily questioned it.

Not to mention, after House, Cooks, and Steeples hit the door, you get Baker and Raymond to come back to the place they didn’t want to leave ha.

When you take a step back and look at the job he did as a coach and the job he did with evaluating and hiring/firing assistants. He was absolutely awful

Not to mention Marcus and a few more were supposed to come. It was doomed from the start.

Which was surprising because he had a good job of hiring assistants before he came.

He wanted out. He struck gold with Daniels and knew it wasnt because if his coaching. Other schools must have seen it too, because no big school HC jobs were opened to him

Was stated to be Woodward picks in the aftermath articles

Complete lack of alignment these last two years.

Is baker really better than house?

2022 is going to be very similar if not better than 2025 in total defense rankings when its all said and done except I’d argue 2022 was much better than 2025 in SEC play while playing with less talent.

2023 was awful agreed but that team also lost Greg brooks who reportedly ran the secondary right as the season was getting going.

He made some bad choices but I sort of understand why he wanted to clean house when he got here.

Things had gotten so bad at the of O’s tenure, the program needed a clean start.

That said, he kept Davis (yes he was important for recruiting) who was probably the worst coach on the staff he inherited

Denbrock has made freaking CJ Carr and Riley Leonard look good.

And Nuss has regressed

he did not want a HC job. he had the #1 offense in the country. he gets the credit. you think 2019 was all burrow ? that we did not need great X and O playcalling from brady? you see how valuable denbrock was when we got stuck with sloan.

24-25 defenses have been better than 22-23. Statistically they may be similar in some areas but this defense is playing with an offense that can’t keep the defense off the field. When you don’t have an offense that can move the ball and score points, the defense is always going to be worse

I understand wanting to clean house too but he made some pretty terrible hires (steeples) that were pretty mind boggling

You dont? One of the best Heisman campaigns in history? How did Brady do without Joe and Josh Allen? He had the best college QB of all time, and now the best NFL QB

Nuss looked damn good without Denbrock last year

Daniels took Wash to the NFC championship without Denbrock. After being 4-13 the year before

ND was 55th in total offense last year. They were 29th under Gerad Parker

Oklahoma had the worst defense I’ve ever seen in my life (until 2023) under Kerry Cooks. I felt like that was an extremely suspect hire at the time along with bringing in Steeples from fricking Missouri high school football.

This is not true.

The majority of the people on this board thought Sloan was the secret sauce to JD5s explosive rise.

A lot of us were convinced Denbrock leaving wasn't a bad thing and Sloan was about to show he was the brains behind the operation in 2023.

We, were wrong.

This is silly. Daniels was so much better in year two - he was coached up by someone and Denbrock surely played a role.

I was fine with him getting rid of Raymond and Moffitt. People forget how atrocious our secondary was in 2020 and 2021 because of how bad the Matt House experiment was in 2023. Up until that point, 2020 was the worst defense in program history in my eyes

Raymond then got fired from Florida and was sitting on the couch when we gave him a call because no one else was trying to hire him in 2024. I think he needed to be humbled and he came back hungry.

Same with Moffitt. I thought our teams got pushed around and were soft towards the latter end of his tenure. Feel like they were getting injured a lot more and weren’t ready to go. Sounds like he also needed to be humbled a little bit. I think he also got a huge fire lit under his arse with the way he was let go, so he’s completely reenergized now at A&M.
