Kelly was 11-2 at ND with Denbrock
Next year Freeman goes 9-4
Denbrock returns and ND goes 10-3 and following year 14-2 etc
LSU loses Denbrock and well you know.......It's not Freeman we need
He and Denbrock at lsu

Well this is a pretty simplistic way to look at it.
Marcus Freeman is the polar opposite of BK. He's not God's gift to football either but they are totally different in every single way.
Side Note: Kelly didn't bring Denbrock from Notre Dame with him. Denbrock was coaching at Cincinnati from 2017 to 2021.

No, he isn't. Kelly is a very good college coach, but he's not hungry. He wanted to win, but he didn't have the desire and the energy necessary to win in the SEC. Freeman is young, hungry, relatable, and would be a homerun hire for LSU.
Had BK come in and had the same fire he had when he first got to ND from Cincy, he would've had a lot more success here.

I think Freeman would do well here. But heard too many stories when he was in the DC search about not wanting to move down here.

Ed's 2nd DC search, after the Pelini return went so swimmingly

Isn’t this Freeman‘s only 4th year as a head coach. And he’s young. I’m not saying he’s the next best thing, but always comparing him to an older much more seasoned Head coach seemed odd to me. He’s still young and still learning in my opinion.

given the lack of inside information on here and through our actual paid 'insiders', those stories were likely total BS

Before we got Bo I think. I’ll try to find the article snippet.
Might’ve been Shea or someone, but wife wasn’t about moving down here.

This is the correct answer. Denbrock's offense wasn't exactly mindblowing outside of JD making massive plays out of nothing.

I don't think so I like freeman his players love him unlike BK

So Chicken you leaning toward thinking Freeman is the target of Verge?
I am thinking Freeman is getting a lot of staff support in his brief success and unless he brings Denbrock..which he will not because Denbrock wants to stay at ND and would be a candidate for head coach...without Denbrock I think his offense would likely be sub par. Just my very unprofessional opinion..we all have opinions

It was before we hired Daronte Jones. I remember it was floated around as a rumor, but it was obvious that O’s seat was very hot and ND wasn’t looking to fire BK.
After Kelly left for LSU, Freeman himself said he was headed to LSU as BK’s DC until ND offered him the head coaching job.

Denbrock’s best offenses:
2021 Cincinnati - Desmond Ritter
2023 LSU - Jayden Daniels
2024 ND - Riley Leonard
All were 5th year Sr QBs
Given the expected candidate pool this cycle - we could do MUCH worse than Freeman. Would be a HR hire

First off, having watched just about every ND game twice over the last two years of Denbrock I see nothing special about his ability. He’s a serviceable coordinator that seems to work around the skill sets of his talent, but hasn’t shown the same skill set at in game transition.
One could even argue his use of tight ends is poor and situational gameplay is predictable.
As far as Freeman goes, you understand ND was his backup choice for schools to play at (choosing OSU), his family has since converted to Catholicism, and he’s just about lived his entire adult life in the Midwest. Nd has committed to updated facilities (opens next year) and assistants are now well paid (not competitive in the past). The next 2 recruiting classes are stacked with talent from all over the nation.
If he goes anywhere by choice, it will be OSU or the NFL. It’s time to move on.

I don’t disagree. Josh Pate was the first to mention him as a potential candidate, and our AD wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t at least call to gauge interest. Given that our AD’s oldest son played for Freeman. they have a relationship.
