In particular, the swing in the Latino vote is really important. Donald Trump made big gains, got 46% of the vote. It's swung all the way back. Republicans on the state level are starting to panic about the gerrymander plans because that Texas gerrymander only works if you are going to get 2024 Latino margins.

Because all Latinos want illegal immigrants? Is that the assumption?

"It's swung all the way back"!? The implication is that he has zero support from them now? The article is garbage.

What i don't understand is how is prop 50 constitutional? Surely if they redraw districts, courts would eventually have to intercede if anyone were to try to take it to court.

I think what some are saying (on the left mainly because the right won’t admit it in Texas) is that if the Latino vote does shift back to where it more rationally has voted that these new district lines may backfire on the Texas Republican Party.
Bobby is going to know until we get some real votes and data until then it will be a big question and thing to watch for.

Never underestimate Republicans ability to screw up elections and honestly it’s likely intentional

I agree with you, then deport them, but only after detaining them and interrogating them for leads on more dirty piece of shite grifters to deport out of this fricking country.

Hmm, you do have good ideas occasionally for someone that doesn’t know what a woman is.

The SCOTUS made it pretty clear that the way districts are allotted is up to the state legislatures in the NC case a few years ago. Thus, washing their hands of future gerrymandering cases. This, mixed with Citizens United, has done so much damage to our democracy and continues to drive significant party polarization.

It appears the assumption is that repeatedly detaining U.S. citizens because they are brown has not gone over well with brown folk.

Who knew?

That’s not the implication. In fact, there is no implication; there is a statement of supposed fact: that the Latino vote has swung back to where it was before the Trump surge, which included non-zero support for Republicans. If it was 40% before, then it’s 40% now.

Don't take political advice from a New York raised female Jewish White Trust fund liberal who went to all elite private schools & has probably never set foot in a bad neighborhood in her life & lives her entire life by the phrase, Vote Blue No Matter Who.

Texas Latinos are way more conservative that the liberal elite thinks.

Why wouldn’t it be? Plenty of state legislatures draw their lines. Prop 50 just gives that power back to Californias legislature from the commission it had been using.

It's exaggeration but it does seem something has changed.
