Just Curious...Why do a lot of Tiger fans want Saban?

It makes zero sense to me. He's in his mid-70's, at best he is a short-term placeholder, I don't see the benefit. It would take him at least one season to get the roster ramped up, if not longer. Saban hated the portal and NIL because the players can come and go as they please, meaning his style of intimidation has lost its effectiveness. It reminds me of N. Carolina getting Belichick out of mothballs, for what??
I see zero upside for both LSU and Saban, why would Saban tarnish his legacy to go back to the grind? LSU needs to get on with finding the best coach they can get, the past is the past, it's not coming back.

Because you can never go back to the “good ole days” even if you desperately want to try.

"Why do LSU fans want the greatest living coach of all time who would come back and instantly receive financial backing, big-time recruits, and a vengeance to prove to people that he can win in the NIL era because he won in the other modern eras before that?"
Yeah, man. It's a mystery
Yeah, man. It's a mystery

LSU fans love some familiarity

Because he’s fricking Nicholas Lou Saban Jr.

It’s a legitimate question. He hated coaching so much that he straight up quit. I have no desire to have a head coach that has already retired.

Yeah, man. It's a mystery
He had it made at Alabama, and chose to retire because he's getting old and tired.
And, when I say he had it made, I mean this: he had everything in place already, his system, his structure, recruiting pipelines etc.
None of that is here, and it would take time and work to recreate it. How much time do you think a 74 yr old man has to rebuild a program?

Because he’s the greatest ever and would probably deliver one or maybe two titles in four years.
He’s that good.
He’s that good.

I don't think he's coming. That being said, if he came back here is why I would be thrilled:
1. Just 2 seasons ago he ran through the SEC 8-0, won the SECCG, and came up just short of playing for another national title when he lost in OT to eventual national champion Michigan. This isn't Mack Brown getting rehired. Or Bill Belichek who was looking for a job b/c he was in a clear decline and got fired.
2. The Bama melt would be worth it alone.
3. To see him stand at a podium again, in purple and gold would be closure. When his departure for Miami was finally announced, I believe it was either his post game from the Capital One Bowl or it was his coach's show at the hotel in Orlando prior to the game where he said he would always be a Tiger. It would be cool to see.

I cant stand him and honestly would not want him...........EXCEPT to make the Bama fans go nuts.
"you retired from us and went back to our rivals 2 years later.....boo hoo!"

Because Nick is my 4th cousin once removed.

At 74, he is NOT currently the best coach. He knew he was slipping because he couldn't handle developing players only to see them go to the portal. He also thought that NIL was way out of hand. I'm not saying I even disagree with him but he couldn't handle the reality of today's "student" athletes. If you can't related to the current game of football, you wouldn't be the greatest coach now.

quote:Simple fact here- we're not their rival. They've won 14 of the last 18 games, and will beat us this weekend. We haven't been ahead in the series since 1902, and haven't been tied since 1909. They have a better record against us than we do against Ole Miss or Arkansas (teams we consider ourselves better than).
"you retired from us and went back to our rivals 2 years later.....boo hoo!"
They'd laugh at us for paying a retired guy 15-20 mil, and then laugh again when he doesn't achieve what he did 25 years ago. And the fact that some of our fans are trying to say "we'll make Bama melt" will be thrown back in our faces.
