Over/under 5 years until we see an 80 yard FG?

Little just broke the NFL record and kicked a 68 yarder

70 isn't far away. The problem is it has to be right before the half or end of game.

Dempsey broke 64 in 1970.

68 yards today.

70 was done by Little in the preseason, just doesn't count towards records, I'm glad he got a chance to legit break it in the regular season. 70 will happen eventually in the regular season. I'm curious what the upper limit will turn out to be as Little still had some room of both these kicks.

Wonder if end of half is more likely. If trying to win a game is doing something that has never been done before the best option? Assume Depends on how confident you are in your kicker

It requires a dangerous launch angle too, more likely to be blocked. So you’d be unlikely to try unless it’s your last chance to win. Otherwise block+return is too risky.

74 seems to be the physical limit barring an absolutely perfect win blowing towards the goalpost

Aubrey for Dallas might be able to hit 75. Generational leg.

You have the fair catch free kicks… those count as field goals

This is where we needs Sports Science to breakdown the physics. There has to be a theoretical maximum that a human leg can create enough force to kick the ball the needed distance.

It's more about launch angle and how low/high the kick needs to be to clear the line than pure leg strength

80 - no way, what an absurd guess
Record goes from 63 to 68 in 40+ years and OP thinks it's going to go up 12 yards in 5 years

69 needs to be the record

You would need to be absolutely confident that your kicker can put it out the back of the end zone at a minimum.

Otherwise it’s just a kickoff and you’re armed with a shitty coverage team.

80 is another 12 yards; I would think that there will be limits to how far players can kick. Pitchers can only throw so hard; runners can only run so fast.

Legs aren’t the impediment, it’s launch angle

It’s for sure more likely but I’d send that dude out from 70 tied game 3 seconds left in the game.

I think the balls are juiced.
