Dodgers being “bad for the sport”

All the crying is about the money and the deferrals. That doesn’t matter. All the owners have money, the people saying “your team could do it to” are right. BUT, these frickers will always maximize profits, LAD included. They make the most so they spend the most. Simple.
The part that actually matters is that MLB stars are all destined for the same handful of teams. It’s TERRIBLE for the league. There’s a football game today that will do massive numbers between KC and Buffalo… fricking BUFFALO. People want to watch Mahomes and Allen and they don’t care what city they play in. Also Buffalo fans aren’t counting the days until Allen leaves in FA.
That’s what the cap does. It could have kept Freeman in ATL, Betts in BOS, Ohtani in Anaheim. Maybe Sasaki or Yamamoto end up in SEA. Those teams COULD have paid them, but without the cap we know they won’t.
The NBA figured this out, and they’re better off for it. This lockout will suck, but hopefully MLB figures it out too.

Rooting against the Dodgers (especially when they play Toronto) because theyre rich and powerful is like rooting against America. Its very sad how many traders reside on the MSB

This thread isn’t about rooting for anyone. It’s about the casual fan being completely uninterested in 20 of the 30 teams in the league, why thats bad for the sport, and why that isn’t a problem in the NFL or NBA.

Well I always think it's good for a sport to have a bad guy. The Dodgers are that.
I will say they are aging and they aren't really developing talent like they used to.
But they still make $325 million on their t.v. deal, more than double any other team and they average 10K more in attendance than any other team so they can go out and buy whoever they want whenever they want and maybe only a couple of teams have enough to battle them for some top stars, but they can outbid the rest all the time and those couple of other teams at least half the time so they are gonna be around a while.

This is the recipe.. If it's not the Dodgers, it's the Yankees. They are the Lakers. They are the empire.
If you want to pump viewers to finals or playoffs, you pit ANY smaller market against LA or NY.
If you want to drive viewers to games without those large markets, you give degenerates a reason to watch: gambling.
They know what they're doing

I agree. It certainly causes me to tune in sometimes.
I would counter that you still end up with villains even in capped leagues. The Chiefs are that. The Warriors were that for many years.

I'm pretty sure they still have one of the top farm systems, will Smith is home grown, as was Seeger and beli... Plus guys like yordan Alvarez came through their system. There's just no room for anyone else on the roster until the older core is gone

Dodgers have a top 3 system in baseball and might not gave a single "star" prospect the likes of Seager and Urias and Lux and Bellinger but have a bunch of players with high level ceilings

I just don't hope it becomes the norm where teams pay for 5-6 starters and then stagger them throughout the year due to "injury" to limit their innings and then turn them all loose in the playoffs
There's only a handful of teams that can actually do that

I would root for the Taliban over the Dodgers and Yankees.

They’ve got more $ than anyone else sans Yanks and have locked down the market on elite Japs
Don’t think it’s bad for the sport though but it’s funny that Dodgers fans try to deny it for some reason

its equally funny watching non dodger fans act like the dodgers arent well run and the only, singular, reason why they win is because of money

Lol dude, the Dodgers aren’t even close to the level of vitriol the Yankees get and deserve.

Obviously that’s not true or the Mets would right there with them and the Yankees hell the Dodgers were spending for a long time and didn’t win.

I remember when we won something like 5 or 6 rookies of the year in a row and had nothing to show for it.

Overreaction...its still Baseball.
1988 Dodgers won with the weakest starting lineup in WS history while beating the A's and the Bash-roid Brothers who had one of the strongest lineups in WS history. Disparity in talent, before free agency, was always a complaint... See "the Damn Yankees" in the 50's and 60's...now people just cry because of payroll.

The only thing I really have a problem with is deferring the money imo that shouldn’t be allowed but I certainly can’t fault the dodgers for doing it when it’s allowed. I do think we are headed for a bad lockout

They have the #1 farm system in the league. Talent isn't something they're lacking in any area.
