Need a large SUV for a family of 6

Family of 6. Kids ages 14, 8, 6, and 4. We travel to New Orleans from Lafayette often, and typically take 2 trips on the road 12+ hours a year. 4 days of the week it's just myself to and from work...8 minute commute 1 way. Currently drive a 2012 Hyundai Sonata with 160k miles.
I really like the 2025 Suburban Z71, but my limited research is showing that it has transmission/engine problems after about 50k miles. It's the roomiest SUV on the market, if I am correct. I really like the style of the Sequoia, but I'm afraid it may be too small for long trips, and even to New Orleans.
Anyone with a large family can shed some light on what they drive and suggestions? I'm 40 and this will be only my 3rd vehicle purchase for myself. My wife drives an Odyssey and we love it.

I just got a Yukon. Seems like the 6.2 motors are worse than the 5.3. Like a crapshoot these days. I fully expect things to break. It's a very nice vehicle though.

...we own a 22 suburban z71 with 55k miles.....
Everything is fine on it, great vehicle.
You will not find more space, and it still feels like an SUV not a crossover.

Shopped all the big SUV’s last year for my family of 5. The Yukon XL was the most practical to our needs and felt the most spacious. Extended wagoneer was very nice but felt huge comparatively. Would have gone with the suburban but my wife specifically wanted a middle row bench seat so it was a little challenging to find. Glad she stuck to the bench seat. It’s been very useful compared to captains chairs. I really wanted the 3.0 duramax but settled on the 5.3, and it has exceeded my expectations.

Sprinter van is also an option.

Are you opposed to another minivan?

Want a transmission and engine without issues? Armada with the 5.6
Problem? It's ugly as shite before this newest update.

My wife had a Yukon XL and it was nice. Traded it for a Expedition max and it's awesome. Both are roomy, but the expedition just feels bigger.

We are 5 and run around a lot. We have a 2022 Escalade. Great vehicle despite the fact that we had to put in a new engine at 30k miles. Hopefully they have the engine issue fixed on the newer vehicles. Probably need to go more to the suburban size for 6. Especially on the longer road trips. Highly recommend getting super cruise(or equivalent) on any vehicle you get.

Thanks for all the responses. I was intrigued by the diesel Suburban Z71 just for the fact I could drive near 700 miles on the interstate before filling up, but my short trips to and from work would probably not be ideal for a diesel engine. I do not know much about engines, but maybe someone here can elaborate on that.
Gonna take a look at the Yukon XL. I kind of wish Hyundai would come out with a SUV comparable to the Suburban and Yukons. The Palisade would be too small for road trips, I think.

If the diesel breaks and it's out of warranty you're going to have a much costlier problem. That's why I avoid them though it's a very Intriguing option.

I wouldve traded it in immediately

You don't need to go that big. I can fit 6 in my Explorer, and I have bucket seats, not benches. You can still fit a couple of roller bags in the cargo area with all of the seats deployed. The bucket seats make it much easier for people to get into the furthest rear seats.
The fact you call Lafayette to New Orleans a long trip makes me laugh.
ETA: We drove from Houston to 30A in a six seat Explorer, no problem.

throwing longevity out of the window the VW atlas is a very roomy suv and you can get the middle row bench seats to make getting to the third row easier.

Find a used Toyota Sequoia with the v8 engine.
Or wait for the new Sequoia with a V8 engine.
Current line of V6 twin turbo is not worth it.

Bought a 2025 Suburban in July. Family vacation has never been better. Seven of us went to the beach comfortably. Zero issues.
