Says LSU hasn’t contacted him about the opening yet ( which tbh not a big surprise as we don’t even have a president yet prob haven’t contacted a ton of candidates in general yet )

Clearly bleeds purple and gold. I know some folks are annoyed about him being pushed by fans due to his lack of experience but imo if they wanna take a chance on the elite assistant/coordinator with no head coaching experience he’ll be one of the top guys to watch

I'm hesitant about the lack of HC experience, too, but given our unfolding shitshow, we might need to temper our expectations.

That’s the million dollar question. Dude has proven to alredy be a bright defensive mind, energetic and has strong leadership qualities. I have no doubt he’ll command a locker room. Question is if he’s ready to run a college football program. If LSU brass after an interview with him feels he is they’ll have an interesting decision on their hands

Being honest, can he be considered an elite coordinator? 8 weeks of real experience so far.

Very honest assessment and I like KS. I believe he would be shocked to see and hear what the CFB staffs are living with, daily, IRT NIL and the portal. Specifically, everything that comes with them: MONEY, donators/collectives, agents, parents, players, year-round roster retention, etc. Oh yeah and still build a highly competent staff to recruit, prepare/plan, coach & develop, and WIN. MUCH has changed since he was at LSU. I believe recent experience and success in the college ranks needs to be weighed appropriately when they grade candidates.

I think yes for a couple of reasons. He was linebackers coach for a couple of seasons before the DC gig. Dan Campbell could’ve went out and got any experienced dc to fill that role but he didn’t hesitate to elevate Sheppard because he thinks very highly of his leadership and ability to scheme up a good defense. Campbell straight up said Sheppard will be a head coach in the future that’s high praise from one of the best coaches in football

It’s only 8 games but you gotta look at how he’s doing it. Lions have been banged up especially in the backend. Despite the injuries he’s done a tremendous job with his leadership and schemes getting that secondary to play well and has the whole defense playing physical and sound at the same time. It’s fun to imagine what he can do with LSU’s defensive talent.

Him being in the league for 7 years is the reason his head coaching career didn’t start sooner unlike guys like Kirby or Dan who didn’t play in the league.

i can also look at his predecessor and see that it may not work. Glenn has been thought to be pretty bad so far, his team isn't helping. Glenn has the NFL chops and more experience, but is struggling. We have to be careful with a guy who has coached for 4/5 years with 1 year of back room experience in college. He could be a stud, or fail

Can’t ever say never when it comes to a coaching hire. All it can take is a strong interview and winning the room. No one thot O would be the guy in 2016 we all Thot it would be tom Herman

Until the President is hired and the "search committee" is established I wouldn't expect anyone to be contacted especially since its been made known that Scott will not have anything to do with the hire. This shite is about to get stupid.

And very few are willing to apply that lesson to Kiffin. O was a desperation hire after Herman played LSU along. It's probably 50-50 on whether Kiffin leaves Ole Miss but if he stays it's 100% that he'll play it out as long as possible to thoroughly frick LSU. Kiffin is good but he's not good enough to take that risk.

I was thinking about it the other day in terms of if I were up and coming hs player in LA with NFL aspirations who would I want to play for? I honestly think Sheppard would be pretty high on the list if he was at LSU. He would actually know what it takes to get there and succeed. I would feel i would have someone I could trustto have my best interests in mind and he also knows what it takes to play championship college football. And he just seems cool.

That said I would really hate to have to fire him if didnt go well especially if it was just because he wasn't quite ready. But you bring him and someone like Joe Brady in to run the offensive side of the ball and watch out, I think the likelihood of success would be high.

If you want to get the culture back on track, I can’t think of anyone better than Kelvin Sheppard, especially if he can get Tommy Moffitt back.

I think he’d also crush it in recruiting. Kids want to play for LSU already. I hate to bring up race, but let’s face it, Louisiana kids much rather play for a guy like Shepp over some old white guy who might not be able to relate on a personal level. That matters. Maybe not as much as money does, but it still matters.

As far as running a program, BK knew how to run a program and still wasn’t successful, mainly because he sucked at hiring coordinators. The GM model with Austin Thomas helping run things also diminishes the need to have someone who’s run a college football program before.

The bottom line is, Shepp could be a great hire, IF he’s able to hire the best OC there is. BK could still be here if he was able to hire great coordinators. Shepp would fail miserably without one of the best OC’s. Just my opinion.

This is the level of intelligence of those seriously suggesting Kelvin Sheppard should be hired to be our head coach.
