These are people that you have seen in (mostly) clothing catalogs that arrive at your home. Do they have to get other jobs to make a living? Were they not quite photogenic enough to become a household name at modeling?

For example, this guy has made the rounds across several brands over the years but hasn’t gone any further apprently:

I guarantee no one here will ever model unless it's for a NASCAR pamphlet or Carhartt ad.

Do you know many household-name male models?

I find it more intriguing that you follow some mundane male model in some random catalog.

a friend of my daughter apparently has "perfect" feet for modeling, very attractive overall as well, her and her husband have awesome day jobs but she gets flown all over the place, New York a lot, for photo shoots of her feet, makes some pretty good dough doing that

their agent prolly negotiated a full buy out for them. Don't know that brand, but prolly in the range of 2-5k depending on the brand.

So yes, they have real jobs i'm sure.

A guy I work with was a packaging engineer at a massive production facility we have. In 2012 or so they put him on an enormous banner that is a step by step guide of how to safely handle the picking/packing/loading process at that facility.

He's since been promoted many times, but the banner is still on the wall of the production facility.

We always joke that he's the professional model.

When I was growing up in the early 80's it was almost a right of passage for girls my age to make it to the local Maison Blanche clothes catalog. I hadn't thought about that in years.

I was almost in the Macy's catalog when I was (much) younger.

I busted my forehead open the day of the photo shoot, and they were no longer interested for some reason.

I dated a girl who was used for some Aeropastle ads back in the early 2000's, not sure if it's the same then as now, but she was a 'model' that would do one off shoots for ads. She was also a college student, a 'jager-girl', and was an extra in a lot of the films shot in the mid to late 00's. So not 'normal', but also not someone that just shot ads as a full-time gig.

My daughter works in the movie business. She works all the time next to basically an army of what you would call "fringe" actors. Some of them work all the time. And you've probably seen them multiple times. But you would never recognize their names or their faces if you saw them in public.

Her agent was telling me she has over 100 clients who make good 6 figure incomes. And theyre building very solid residual income streams just doing basic grunt work week after week. Hoping for a big break but also doing very well for themselves at the same time.
