Y’all just assume he’s going to finally get over the hump like we thought BK would do when got him from ND? Not gonna happen

lemme guess we should just hire Andy Reid, Sean McVay, Saban, or Dan Lanning! It’s that easy!

He’s made two NY6 bowls in 5 years at ole Miss. i.e. would have made the 12 team playoffs twice in 5 years. At Ole Miss. and looking to make it 3 times in 6 years.

So, yeah.

This is a weird post. Obviously there are several attainable guys out there who would be better than kiffin and be cheaper too. No, it's not easy to find them but thats what the AD gets paid to do

LSU won a national championship with arguably the worst head coach Ole Miss ever had. Imagine what they could do with arguably the best coach Ole Miss ever had

I'm not a Kiffin hater (was a big proponent of him in the past) but you're more right than many (dealing with a hopium addiction currently) would admit. The other issue is we are going to have to give an INSANE contract to land him. 10/$150M isn't out of the question or maybe even a 12/$180M.

And then if he doesn't work out, what? At some point it becomes insurmountable

I don't think he has what it takes to win the big games and get over that hump. I worry that he will win enough to put us in purgatory: making the playoffs every few years so we cant get rid of him but no championships. Maybe he gets lucky one year and wins one but we've done that a few times already. I'd rather take a chance and try to win multiple.

At Ole Miss

How much more talent can he really get at LSU in todays age? Obviously idk our financial situation but there are reports out there that if we have to pay the full BK buyout then our NIL fund will take a hit. I'd expect Lane to be the most expensive coach this cycle. Will we really be able to afford a better roster than what he had at OM the last couple years? Dart was a pretty damn good QB

Idk who they are but obviously they exist. Every coaching carousel there are lesser names that out perform the big names. Go back and read my post. I admitted they wouldn't be easy to find but they most certainly are out there if our AD knows where to look. None of the top 10 teams HCs (DeBoer, Smart, Lanning, Day, Lea, Key, Cignetti, Elko, Cristobal) had the same hype when they were hired that Kiffin currently has. Neither did Saban. They were all guys who had potential but never had a shot at a big job to prove how far they could go. Kiffin has had plenty of big jobs to show what he's capable and he hasn't done it

You'll get lots of downvotes, but it's a valid question. The answer might be: this year.

Recruiting rankings
2025: LSU 9 OM 19
2024: LSU 7 OM 20
2023: LSU 5 OM 20
2022: LSU 12 OM 22

This is all with a lazy coach who didn’t recruit. And the two years before Lane was there Ole Miss was 39 and 19. It’s easy to recruit at a top 10 level at LSU.

His HS classes at OM were mostly comprised of 3* guys, and when we really leaned into the portal we got just as much portal talent as he did. Plus he’d be back with his buddy Austin Thomas

Excluding the covid year, Kiffin has won 77% of his games at Ole Miss compared to Kelly's 71% at LSU. Kiffin is 28-6 (82%) since 2023.

How much better can he do with LSU's resources?

Are those rankings considering his transfer classes?
I find that hard to believe but comforting if true.

This is what I'm worried about. I can't say for certain but if we do end up paying the $53M buyout to BK and if Lane commands the type of contract that we all expect him to then I'm not sure we will be able to fund NIL like we did last season. Maybe? None of us here can really know the answer to that but the money has to run out at some point

Kiffin is a splash hire.

Kiffin is also a media darling.

Kiffin also has an attention seeking ego.

My biggest concern with Kiffin at LSU is this becomes too much of a distraction and he loses focus on the job at hand.

Kiffin isn't bolting OM for LSU. Auburn had the same hopium y'all have last year. It ain't happening.

Johnny Vaught died in 2006. Kiffin is the second-best.

Ole Miss has 11 AP top 10 finishes, Lan has one of those, and Vaught has 10. They only have 4 top 5 finishes, Vaught has all 4 of those, and it was 4 in a row (1959-1962).

I guess that's why the stadium is named after him.
