Lane- Saban coaching tree with elite offenses, average recruiter

Lanning- Kirby coaching tree, thereby Saban by proxy with excellent defense but not yet elite—excellent recruiter

I think Lanning would come if things can be worked out, I don’t think it works out for Kiffin

So battling Phil Knight who will do anything to keep Lanning is easier than getting Kiffin who wanted the job at LSU in 2021?

I don’t like how Lanning loses all his big games. I understand Kiffin has for the most part as well. I just think Kiffin is a way better OC than Lanning is DC.

I wouldn’t be upset with Lanning but In my pecking order he is below Kiffin.

Ive heard from multiple sources that there are things in play that have Lanning looking specifically at LSU and that he is the top pick for LSU

I can't see that. He's great, but I can't see him leaving Oregon. Not saying he won't. Would be amazing.

Oregon can find more money in their sofa cushions than LSU will ever have. Can’t see him leaving.

Hear me out…. We aren’t getting either of them.

Dan Mullen is a weird one I feel like is more likely.

You eat all that money to hire the fired Florida coach?

I was surprised that LSU will pay more than Oregon if it has to…was told he is target #1

You think they’re taking 5 steps back to hire Mullen?

The fanbase would full on riot, and I don’t think Mullen is a bad coach at all.

If Dan Lanning leaves Oregon, his buyout is $20 million, a figure set in his March 2025 contract extension. This is a separate amount from what Oregon would owe him if they fired him without cause, which would be the full amount of his remaining guaranteed salary.

$20m makes Lanning going anywhere an issue. Likely why Bama didn’t hire him last year.

No you haven’t. It’s a ridiculous statement and nobody believes it.

Oregon is weak this year. They aren’t a top 10 team. They beat a bad PSU in 2OT and lost to Indy bad.

I don’t really want Lanning tbh

What? Lanning is absolutely a star. Anyone would love to get him. The problem is they locked him down and he can’t be taken away ($20 mil buyout to leave). They were tired of coaches leaving Tagg and Cristobal
