Yeah I mean I don’t want him. 8 other guys ahead of him on my list…. But I’m just saying if it’s between him or some coordinator, I’m taking him

If Dan Lanning leaves Oregon, his buyout is $20 million, a figure set in his March 2025 contract extension. This is a separate amount from what Oregon would owe him if they fired him without cause, which would be the full amount of his remaining guaranteed salary.

$20m makes Lanning going anywhere an issue. Likely why Bama didn’t hire him last year.

Yeah the 20 million would be problem.

Would be a hell of a hire

Was available in 2021.

I also can see why even with Nike money Lanning might want out of being in the Pacific Northwest and having to play away games in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

It’s a big pitfall for college teams.

I mean I’m older I can kind of see this he’s what 40 and his parents still live in Missouri might be a chance to get closer to home before they get too much older. That’s precious the older you get.

I agree I believe Lanning is starting to get exposed that he isn’t what everyone thought he was.

Kiffin who wanted the job at LSU in 2021?

I'm not doubting this, but where is this from? I've seen it mentioned a few times on here.

Hear me out…. We aren’t getting either of them.

Dan Mullen is a weird one I feel like is more likely.

Hell, may as well bring Terry Bowden out of retirement.

Lanning has a deal with Nike that pays him even more than his coaching salary from Oregon. He's not leaving.

Why would Lanning come here with no president and a neutered AD? He has everything he wants including blank checks at Oregon.

Only way you're getting Lanning is if he wants to get away from the libs up north and I'm willing to bet for millions more he'll be okay with that.

Oregon can find more money in their sofa cushions than LSU will ever have. Can’t see him leaving.

Oregon endowment fund 1.6 Billion
LSU is 1.2 billion

LSU has enough wealthy donors to compete with anyone. We can pay whatever anyone else can offer. It’s not always about the money. These coaches want to win a natty. Comes down to if they think they can do it at their current gig.

Lanning is a massive tool. Talks a lot of shite and doesn’t back it up.

It's not just the $20 million, it's the roughly $40 million that he has in unvested Nike stock as part of his contract. He gets about $10 million a year in unvested stock as part of his Nike deal. It vests once he completes his contract or gets dismissed. It's the Nike portion of his contract that is the real sticking point and why Bama couldn't try and move on him.

You'd have to come up with $50-$60 million for his full buyout, that's really steep.
