What’s the boards consensus on Sumrall ?

Sorry if topic has been covered . To be honest I didn’t know much of the guy until the BK firing and now I’ve been looking at a lot of the names that keep getting thrown around. The more I look at this guy the more I like. I’m just curious what the consensus is here on him ?

Needs more experience and in a bigger conference to become the HC at one of the Top programs in the country.

Great coach, but it feels a lot like Napier to me
He's better than that, but I just don't like the idea of it YET.

LSU doesn’t concern itself with Tulane. Same with ULL.

He would probably kill it here at LSU. He's 43, played and coached in the SEC. Has lived in Louisiana for a few years, knows the culture. He's fiery, motivated, has been a DC in the SEC. Has won at both HC stops, it makes too much sense, but because he coaches at Tulane and Napier sucked, people don't want him. No one outside of Kiffin and Lanning would do better, and those 2 dudes aren't coming.

Listen to what Coach Sumrall says after a loss. That shows you what he's made of. This guy is like Joe Pesci in Casino. He'll keep coming.

Moot.
Regardless how good he is or not, LSU boosters and the governor are not going to hire the Tulane coach. They just arent.

Tell me the parallels between he and Napier other than coaching in Louisiana. That’s a lazy, dumb take

This is the vibe I’m getting. I mean there is no perfect candidate but out of the realistic ones I like him and Drinkwitz the best. Kiffin or Lanning would be absolute home runs imo but I just don’t see either coming here. I’m trying to discuss realistic options and not Hail Mary pipe dream coaches. I guess I should’ve expected the responses I’ve received so far.

He has positive traits. Good recruiter, motivator, shows ability to adapt and tailor his roster to their strengths
In-game coaching needs some work. His inexperience shows at times
He’s on a good career path but ready for LSU he is not

Probably a winner, but also probably too risky to hire at this time; not proven enough at a high level.

Agreed.

Actually, he’s even less qualified than Napier. He took over the house that Willie Fritz built and was a dc for a porous Kentucky defense.
But he did good at Troy!

No, Lanning might be the guy Woodward goes after because he prefers name with less unknowns. Worst case we just forced Oregon to pay outta their arse to keep him.
Remember while he's definitely a name on a list he's not one of the top names floating around like Kiffin and Sumrall.

One thing I’m thinking is that he would take the job without a mega contract that marries us to someone that may not work out. I would hate to see us pay mega bucks to Matt Campbell or brohm (just throwing some more proven names out there ) and then be stuck paying a third ridiculous buy out 3-4 years later. I guess it’s not my money.

Tulane lost 60 players to the portal after Fritz left. There was no house to come home to.

Soooo he’s won at two programs?
You still didn’t point out how he’s like Napier.
I’m not saying Sumrall is the perfect candidate but the comparisons to Napier are lazy and parroted by idiots that don’t bother to do their own research
