Why Would Lane Leave?

Seeing Lane as the most popular pick. People really think he’s going to leave the 7th ranked team in the nation mid season? They’re 7-1. Still hope for a SEC championship berth and a spot at the playoffs. Lane’s not leaving that. At least not right now. After the season maybe. Does LSU wait that long? Doubtful.

Okay, well, who do you think l s u should get?

Getting a Florida or LSU going is way more stable than Ole Miss. Ole Miss can be a 10 win team or a 4 win team.

If hes our guy and a silent commit is made then yea.. we do
We have to nail the hire. Not gonna rush into a hire for the sake of our recruiting class. Besides there's a late signing period and transfer portal window

I don’t think he would, but Kelly was still in playoff contention when he left ND for LSU.

Ole Miss can be a 10 win team or a 4 win team.
We are pretty stable winning 10+ games a year at the moment

He wont be at Ole Miss next year. Sexton will make him the highest paid coach at either Florida, Penn State, or LSU.

Tiger Stadium
Huge NIL presence
Celebrity and loved Day 1
Constantly compared to BK
LSU is a much larger brand
LSU’s program is in a good position

That’s the first time this question has been asked. Congratulations.

he's been vocal about other school ponying up more money for recruits and staffers. He's actually specifcially mentioned LSU multiple times for recruits and for stealing one of their NIL people and Austin Thomas who is basically a GM.
LSU spends more on recruits and support staff yearly period.

Nobody thinks that or has even suggested it.
If he's our guy, he wants the job, and we can reach an agreement in principle, then we'll absolutely wait.

The other side of this is that Kiffin can stay at Ole Miss, probably get a raise to $10 million + this year, regularly exceed the Ole Miss standard and coach there as long as he wants, competing for a playoff spot regularly and become a legend at Ole Miss. There's no pressure there like there will be at LSU or Florida.

If Lane has proven anything over the years it's that you can't trust anything he says.
so silent commit or no, I wouldn't take that chance.

Personally, I don't think he's leaving. He seems happy there and can win 9-10 games a season, go to the playoffs, and he's a rock star with the fan base.
It's especially different now with the NIL and transfer portal era where really any team has a chance.
That being said, their schedule has been a cakewalk the last couple of seasons. Of his ranked wins during his Ole Miss tenure, only 4 of them were ranked at the end of the season:
1. Arkansas-2021 (finished No. 20 at 9-4)
2. LSU-2023 (finished No. 12 at 10-3 with the worst defense in program history)
3. Penn State-2023 (finished No. 13 at 10-3)
4. UGA-2024 (finished No.6 at 11-3)
Their best wins so far this year are against LSU (who just fired its coach) and OU (who will probably fire their coach and have more losses this year). So far, outside of Georgia last season, he hasn't really shown that he can win the big game when it matters.
If he does leave, it will be because of a fat contract, the brand of LSU football and Saban-like immortality in the state if he gets the program back on track and wins a championship.
