2 of the biggest qualities I want: 1) Relentless work ethic, 2) Swagger

BK had neither. He was lazy, used it as a retirement plan. And he neutered the frick out of this program until they were completely flaccid

I want a guy that will work his motherfricking arse off, and will bring some damn attitude back to this program. I want Louisianimals back.

(3rd would be that they are elite at one side of the ball, not just a manager)

Orgeron had both and was a disaster.

Geez. Just go get Deion then.

1) Understanding of the financial landscape of major college football. It's a money game now.

2) Ability to raise needed money from boosters.

3) Coaching credibility to attract the best coordinators you can afford. This is where your real coaching dollars need to be spent.

4) Someone who knows how high school coaches think so he can rebuild the wall around Louisiana.

5) Someone who is willing to bet on himself - lots of incentives and reduced buyout.

Orgeron's work ethic dropped off drastically and so did the program

On top of that, I assumed a prerequisite was smart, good coach on top of those things

I don't mean the Deion type swagger

Really I meant more passion and attitude.

You also have to understand Louisiana. You can’t win hear if you don’t understand the people because that’s key to recruiting the state. Nick, ed, and Les all got it. Doesn’t guarantee success but it sure as hell helps

1. Programs have GMs now who handles the money side of things.

2. That's what A.D.s are for. All the coach would really do is show up at events, shake some hands and tell the money guys that 'we are definitely going to beat Alabamas arse this year'.

3. You just killed your own argument about coaching credibility to hire good coordinators. It's more about the money.

4. What the hell does 'know how high school coaches thinks' mean? Perhaps you mean build a relationship with the high school coaches. Most high school coaches worth their weight wants their players to go to college and get a degree.

5. So you are wanting an unproven guy. Because a guy like Kiffin isn't going to take a small base salary loaded with incentives and a small buyout.

You don't seem to understand the college landscape.

Have you met many high school coaches lately? More and more of them are wearing backpacks and backwards hats on the sideline. With the dramatic decrease of men going into education to become coaches, that whole industry is going to change in the next 10 years. You need a coach that knows the seedy underbelly of coaches and uncles that direct talent.

For me, it's not necessarily "Swagger" that's needed, but there needs to be some ability to harness Louisiana voodoo. You've got to show an ability to tap into the magic that flows in Death Valley, Be it eating grass or ripping your shirt off in practice or eating your Little Debbies at every LA high school game on Friday nights.

BK had no intention to try this and it exploded him.

Yet there is no shortage of coaches in their 60s and 70s being thrown out on this board so far.

He had those qualities thru 2019 as well. And football smart is an extremely relevant term compared to being actually intelligent. I mean, Barry Switzer and Les Miles were both highly successful college coaches. I would be willing to bet good money both would struggle with basic math concepts and simple sentence structure, as would Ed. But give me prime Orgeron over any mensa candidate to correctly teach and then motivate a 19 yr old kid with a reading disability to play a correct 3 technique while puking his gets up in the 4th quarter of a big game.

Swagger can have different interpretations. I’d say more get a guy with aura. Saban didn’t have swagger but he had aura. Swagger can be a double edged sword. Look at Deion.

Yes I am friends with a high school coach. Just like with the GMs to handle the financial side of things, teams have a recruiting coordinator. A head coach doesn't exactly go scout players. Why do you think Frank Wilson has been at LSU for so long (I know he left but he came back)? I'm sure it's solely for his excellent coaching of running backs.

Orgeron had strong work ethic in 2017-2019.

In 20&21 he straight up phoned it in and did nothing for us other than utterly tank the program into irrelevance off the heels of a championship.

People need to stop romanticizing his ending here. It was not good.

I guess he does still like/love LSU though, so I’ll give him that.

BK will curse LSU because he’s a prick.

Might need to add "strong morals" to the list of qualities, considering the last 3 guys have had trouble keeping with inappropriate banging / keeping their marriages together.

We need someone who was also at least a coordinator. Our last 3 coaches were never coordinators and that made us dependent on hiring good coordinators. I want someone that HAS one side of the ball always...
