Any user experiences with home delivery of a vehicle?

I've been looking for a while for a used Tundra and options are slim in the BR / NO areas. I'm hesitant about spending $50K + on a vehicle I've never sat in, much less drove or looked under the hood.

How do these purchases typically transpire?

TIA

Why would you need to test drive a brand new vehicle?

It will show up in your driveway on a rolloff truck. Super easy. I've done it twice, will likely do it again one day.

You suspect they’ll try to sneak a 1960 Russian tractor motor in there?

I test drove a few I had in mind, then when I decided on make and model, I shopped online for color, trim, etc. Bought from a dealership about 200 miles away. I had a trade in, so the owner/manager drove my new car to my driveway, I signed papers and gave him the d/p check, then he drove the trade in away. Super easy.

Eta
This was a new car. Not sure if I'd go that route for used, depending on the specifcs.

Buying a used truck sight-unseen is a mistake.
At least have someone local check it out, and for sure look at the Carfax. Get the VIN and go to your local Toyota dealer and have them check the service history.

Or better, let your husband make those decisions.

The trade ins I've looked at have all ben in pretty much new condition (2024-2025) I just want to see if it's obvious any parts have been changed, which IMO, they shouldn't be for a newer vehicle. You just can't be sure how the previous owner cared for the vehicle, or if it was a lemon.

Even if there's nothing to see, I consider it due diligence to look. Same with looking at the gaps between the hood and the front panels, doors, and tailgate to see if the gaps are symmetrical.

On a used vehicle, no way would I buy without me inspecting it first. Course I know what to look for.

And a Carfax is not the holy bible of truth on a car. I’ll look at it for something negative showing but it’s not proof something didn’t happen.

In my case the guy waited until I inspected the vehicle as much as I needed to. I'm a novice and it was new so I didn't check too much, but they should let you kick the tires before you sign anything.

And if they don’t, walk away. Ask yourself “Why would someone not let me inspect it?”

Which is why you run the VIN through thr manufacturer's system.

To test drive the vehicle without the options at a dealership. The engine is the same no matter the options unless you’re buying a performance car. Home delivery is awesome.

Carmax you pay the shipping and can test drive it and have a mechanic look at it before you buy it.

Just would be out of the delivery fee if you don’t buy it.

I’m pretty sure that carvana has a grace period to return it.

Due to erroneous accident report, our Sonata was shown having been in an accident on Carfax.

Surprised the heck out of us when we tried selling it....

Took a while and visit with the FHP to fix it....

Have done both. Over the course of 4 transactions, 1 car had some hiccups and wasn’t kept. No real trouble. Didn’t even eat the delivery fee.

I have driven pickups for years, I haven’t “test driven” one prior to purchase in ages

I’ve had 4 delivered. Only one was new. Bought them from other states and they didn’t charge very much. I’ve never had any problems with the vehicles either. But I probably got lucky.

For dealership work? I can see that. But if it has had body work done and it was paid for with cash there is a good chance it won't be in a "system" somewhere.

I've done it last three vehicles.

Get everything in writing via email.

Make sure they know if anything is off you're sending it back.

Typically if they are willing to make the drive to you they know its fine and you'll keep it.

If you need to drive it find a dealer local and test drive their shite.

I've had great success every time.

Bought 2 cars sight unseen

-2008 Escalade in 2010 with 40,000 miles. Delivered on a trailer on Labor Day because I told them the trade in needed new tires.

ETA: the Escalade was ‘Certified Used’ so it came with a 100,000 mile warranty, which gave me some extra protection, too. That came in handy when the motors on the running boards crapped out and the electronic shocks went out in the year before the warranty expired. Those would have been expensive repairs.

-2017 Jeep Wrangler in 2021 with 39,000 miles.

No problems outside of regular maintenance with both of them. The jeep didn’t have any mods (lifts, tires, etc), so I wasn’t really worried about it having been rode hard.

Under/around 40,000, I wouldn’t worry too much outside of CarFax, but I don’t know what I’m looking at/for under the hood, either, which is why I rely on CarFax.
