LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) — Gov. Jeff Landry’s approval ratings dropped across Louisiana, including in Acadiana, his home region. New polling data shows voters here are split on how he’s doing.

JMC Analytics and Polling surveyed 600 likely voters October 18-20. Statewide, 51% disapprove of Landry and 39% approve. His “very favorable” rating fell from 25% to 19% since the last poll. His “very unfavorable” rating went from 31% to 39%.

What Lafayette Residents Think About Their Governor

In Lafayette—Landry’s home region—he does slightly better but still has more people who disapprove than approve. Here, 45% view him favorably (22% very favorable, 23% somewhat favorable) and 51% view him unfavorably (41% very unfavorable, 10% somewhat unfavorable).

Lafayette gives Landry his second-best numbers in the state after Monroe, where 57% view him favorably.

The poll shows big differences across Louisiana. Monroe leads with 57% favorable ratings. The state’s bigger cities give him much lower marks:

Baton Rouge: 34% favorable, 56% unfavorable
New Orleans: 34% favorable, 55% unfavorable
Shreveport: 38% favorable, 45% unfavorable
Lake Charles: 37% favorable, 58% unfavorable
Alexandria voters split evenly at 50% favorable.
Lake Charles gave him his worst numbers at 58% unfavorable.

Republicans like Landry at 65% (32% very favorable, 33% somewhat favorable). Democrats don’t—76% disapprove, with 67% viewing him very unfavorably. Independents lean negative: 61% unfavorable versus 33% favorable.

White voters split 49% favorable to 43% unfavorable. Black voters disapprove at 69% versus 14% favorable. Men and women both disapprove at 51%.

Interesting. While I’m not a fan of Gov Landry, I honestly would have expected him to poll better.

And no…the polling outfit, JMC, is not some left-leaning outfit. They typically work with/for conservative leaning candidates, and have probably even worked for initiatives aligned with Landry in the past.

Interesting that Gov Landry is polling worse in the Lake Charles region that NOLA; however, I wonder how much of that is residents in SWLA (Vernon, Calcasieu, Sabine) really worked up over the carbon capture stuff.

Governor, bring back Omar. It was the only thing that made the people rally around you.

I have seen some polls that put him in the low 40s, so this isn't that far off.

Here is a Hayride piece explaining why he might be low (from that writer's perspective): LINK

And another Hayride piece from the Exec Director of the state Republican Party who takes issue with the poll: LINK

So read both and decide for yourself.

I follow Louisiana politics less than anybody I know so what do I know, but I've never met anyone who had a kind word to say about him.

Republicans like Landry

I don't know a single republican who actually likes Landry. They prefer him to JBE, but certainly don't like him.

He has yet to do a single notable thing that I can point to for which I'd give him an accolade. He's been the quintessential democrat politician as far as nepotism/cronyism goes and has spent more time kissing Trump's arse pursuing his next gig than Bobby Jindal did. Been a long time since I was this disappointed in a local politician. Mayor Coach excluded.

Yep, all Landry does is make corrupt deals with democrat king makers like the trial lawyers and Cleo Fields to get power and then demagogue on dumb social issues.

The only reason I voted for him was because the candidate whose economic plan I liked dropped out and endorsed Landry. Landry watered down his plan and sabotaged it at the legislature and then blamed the voters.

Literally, the only good thing to come out of Landry’s term as governor so far has been his use of state police to patrol tourist areas of New Orleans. Everything else has been a disaster.

1- Color me shocked the Exec Director of the LA GOP would “take issue”. LA GOP took Landry’s cash promises in 2023 in exchange for being solely a mouthpiece for his campaign and administration.

2- And yeah, in his first paragraph calls JMC a “liberal pollster”. That’s the exact opposite of JMC’s reputation within LA political circles. This Dennis guy is a lying sack of shite…and I don’t call people stuff like that lightly.

Gov. Jeff has a problem.

Most folks voted for him believing he would get things done.

He ain’t done shite yet.

Folks in Lake Chuck are pissed because that old I-10 bridge is still standing.

No ground being broke on a new Mississippi River bridge near Baton Rouge yet.

Crime is still breaking records in every metro area.

Only positive is new data centers being built that will provide only a small amount of jobs once building is complete.

I wonder if Trump knows how things are really going here in Louisiana?

Wonder if President Trump still communicates with John Fleming. If so…very possible. Fleming and Landry are at odds these days.

One of my biggest gripes is that he tanked the CCA Menhaden buffer zone agreement at the last minute after it was agreed upon, and then has said nothing as the industry backtracks on the more favorable decision they already received.

Many posters will think that’s silly but I’m all in on wildlife conservation. Sportsman’s Paradise my arse. Those company’s get to do whatever they want as long as Landry gets his over the pants HJ from them

and will require more electricity than (I believe) our utility grid or Utilities (Entergy) can provide. Bet your hat and arse that consumers will foot the bill and suffer the outages as Entergy tries to supply Meta with the energy necessary to operate. And we won't even address why all the negotiating and discussions between Entergy and Meta have been sealed in secrecy.

Interesting. Landry isn’t making too many new friends on the GOP side here.

In Gov Landry’s defense, I have no idea if the above has/had merit, or who agitated who first, either publicly or privately. But I’d say they’re probably not on the best of terms theses days.

Louisiana seems wholly incapable of electing competent leadership.

I mean, I don't have much room as an Okie to talk, since we gave the US James Lankford and Markwayne Mullin, but at least we elect decent governors. Stitt hasn't been perfect by any means, but he has certainly been pretty solid.

Not a Landry fan but:

-They are not taking the old bridge down until the new one is open.
_ New MS bridge in Baton Rouge, talk to the feds as they have been holding this up for 2 decades as well as Ascension Parish and Iberville.

You sound like an idiot.

As far as crime, blame the mayors and try reading a book on how government works.

i participted in this poll. I was sent a text from JMC analytics with link to the poll. It asked a lot about potential future matchups for senate and governor as well as attitudes about Louisiana economy, level of optimism, primary problem facing state, etc.
