This map says no. Thoughts?

Any deeper and you're in the Gulf

Southern Louisiana is its own thing, central and northern Louisiana are definitely Deep South culturally. The panhandle of Florida is also Deep South culturally.

Nope.
I do like how Florida is its own thing.
I have lived in 3/4 deep south states- somehow missed Alabama.

Yes. Map is wrong. It’s LA, MS, AL, GA, and SC.
This would be better as a county level map, so that southeastern AR, southwestern VA, parts of western NC, east TX and the FL panhandle could be included.

I don't understand this.
How is southern Louisiana not Deep South culturally?

Louisiana is part of the south, but there are some discrepancies:
1) religion (Louisiana only southern state with large catholic presence)
2) ethnicity (French as opposed to Scots-Irish and English in other southern states)

I live in South LA and I don’t think it fits what people think of when they hear “Deep South” The culture, cuisine and geography are so different than the rest of the south that it kind of stands out/alone as its own “region”

NLA, especially NELA, is true, gentile south. South Louisiana is a hodgepodge of dumb uncouth criminal mongrels from Nova Scotia who don't know wtf they are.

I dunno,
New orleans is something different than the south. They don't even have sweet tea.
Shrevport is obviously texas.
Laffy is cajun.
Alexandria is a shithole.
The only parishes that border MS are what I'd consider deep south. And really just those above W.Feliciana bordering the river.

If Alabama is the ‘heart of Dixie’ then yes, since the heart is sort of in the middle of things

Too much orange in Texas.

It doesn’t share similar heritage, religion, food, music, traditions, etc… with the typical Deep South culture. Similar to how southern Florida is its own thing.

Kinda is and kinda ain't. Lafayette is considered by some to be the center of Arcadian culture. That culture with its French influence is unlike the culture of say Alabama or Mississippi. But, the food is better for sho cheri.

Texas is not the south. It’s its own entity.

Texas and Florida are comparable, though for different reasons.

ethnicity (French as opposed to Scots-Irish and English in other southern states)
Massively overstated these days. There’s more British (including derivative countries), Irish, Italian, and German in south Louisiana than true French ancestry. Louisiana and New Orleans were governed or colonized by the French for a pretty short period of time relatively speaking and the French weren’t all that interested in populating it. Most of the population in that period was brought in or allowed in by the Spanish, not the French.
The “French” in Louisiana is emigres from Haiti and the like. There simply wasn’t that many people who settled here from Nova Scotia. The overwhelming majority of them went back to Europe.
