Barion Brown would have multiple TDs on bombs (and more than one TD on punt/kickoff returns)
Same for Hilton after learning how to time a jump
Nic Anderson would be a beast over the middle
Aaron Anderson would be LSU's next 1,000 yard receiver
Nuss would improve, even incrementally over last year's success
The offensive line would be at least average
Caleb Jackson would figure things out
Perkins would be a heat seeking missile running QBs down

All these players cannot be overrated. Coaches develop and prepare a team to execute.

Barion Brown would have multiple TDs on bombs (and more than one TD on punt/kickoff returns) - YES

Same for Hilton after learning how to time a jump - YES

Nic Anderson would be a beast over the middle - MEH, I thought Green would fill that role more in terms of production

Nuss would improve, even incrementally over last year's success - NO. I think what we saw last year was his ceiling

The offensive line would be at least average - NO, however, I thought they could not perform worse than last year. I was dead wrong.

Caleb Jackson would figure things out - NO. Genetic freak but lacks vision but alot of that could be to the blocking schemes. A different OC could totally change Jackson but under Davis and Sloan, this is who he is.

Perkins would be a heat seeking missile running QBs down - YES. Perkins is about where I thought he would be.

We have a overrated head coach who just talks a good game… Boy if we didn’t get JD5 we would’ve been exposed much sooner.

This is what happens when you get a bunch of dudes not from Louisiana that are here just for a fricking pay check and a chance to be on a NFL team.

I also thought for sure we'd hear McKinley's name way more often. I'm sure he's been solid, but I thought he was going to be a household name by now.

I had hopes that the oline would improve, but if anything, they've regressed. That makes zero sense to me. How do you get worse at something when you're gaining more experience?

Coaching sucks so fricking bad. They should have to pay huge fines for breach of contract.

I’d like to add that I thought we would throw more than 2 passes between the hashes in every game. Never thought Nuss would be so scared to throw a pick that he would cripple the passing game over the middle.

Digging up my stuff, here's what I got fricking roasted for:

QB - Better, with a better backup - 50% right
RB - Better, healthy Durham - wrong
TE - Worse - correct and underutilized where we actually are better
WR - Worse - nailed it (drops, JFC)
OL - Trainwreck - nailed it

Line- Better depth, lower ceiling - Correct
LBs - Better, especially Perkins -Correct
Secondary - Better by default - Underestimated how good they would be

Edit: I had LSU at 8-4, and that seems to be looking like 7-5 to me now.

There are too many people that thought like you. Coming into the season, I remember everyday there was a new post about how a receiver was going to have a "breakout" year. Hilton, Brown, N. Anderson, A. Anderson, Parker, Green, Sharp, Thomas were all supposed to "breakout" this year. You even had people convinced that Hill, Watkins, and Billiot would have significant roles. People were delusional. I swear some people thought Nuss was going to throw for 8,000 yards and Durham would lead the conference in yards.

I think it was completely reasonable as the receiver room has far more talent and depth than it did last year. What I and others admittedly didn't take into account was that, by trying to get everyone playing time (presumably as a result of the transfer portal to keep everyone satisfied) and maybe keeping our WRs fresh, it hasn't allowed anyone to get into a rhythm or have a great connection with Nuss which is why I think you're seeing a lot of dropped passes or throws where the communication is off.

Also, Nuss not being able to throw the ball downfield for the first 5 games didn't help at all.

Also, Anderson got hurt thanks to a hospital ball and Hilton has fallen into the same bad tendencies that he had last year.

It's a mess... a combination of coaches' mismanagement in-part due to transfer portal/NIL expectations, some players underperforming where there should've been improvement, and some plain-ole bad luck. At the end-of-the-day, it's on Kelly and the coaching staff who should be putting the 3/4 best guys on the field and sticking with them, regardless of transfer fears or pre-season promises.

You thought it was reasonable that 8 receivers would have breakout years with 3 others getting significant playing time?

I called LSU’s final record 9 & 3. Still have a shot but looking less and less realistic.

No, my thought was that the WR play as a whole would be better than last year because we have dudes who can actually take the top off of a defense this year with Barion Brown and a healthy Hilton, which was our biggest problem last year. Also, more quality depth. Anderson is still great, but has been hurt thanks to the Nuss hospital ball. So ideally, we have 3/4 solid starters out of that group with a variety of traits which is what you want.

In practice though, the WR room has been mishandled due to the issues I posted above.

This is the first time in decades that I put it all on coaching. Even at the tail end of the Les Miles era (my favorite football coach at LSU), I thought it had more to do with bad luck at the QB position. When Les had Mett, we had a 3,000 yd QB, a 1,000 yd RB, and two 1,000 yd receivers. He didn’t suddenly forget how to run an offense after that, he just had to scheme around what he had to work with at QB. And Coach O gets a free pass for going off the reservation after fielding the greatest team in college football history. I was neither excited nor disappointed with the BK hire, but 4 years in, I truly feel the problems are due to a poorly coached team.

The offense has been absolutely mind blowing. I in no way at all thought we would be this bad. Hell most of these dudes on the OL played in the bowl game and looked okay vs an above average Baylor squad.

There is zero identity, I don't know what we "do". It's like a middle school kid just calling plays in NCAA. Nothing sets up anything else. No formation's to out number people. No tempo.................

He did, and it was worse than you remember, regardless of QB. We wasted so much offensive talent his last 5 or so years because of him, not in spite of him.

See the many toss-dives into the teeth of a Saban-led Alabama defense who was putting 8, sometimes 9 in the box, or refusing to use the middle of the field at all thanks to his own scar-tissue from 2008.

So you think Harris and Jennings could have performed like Mett, but Miles just held them back? Okay.
