We constantly hear that people leave early because of traffic. But if everyone is leaving before the 4th quarter, doesn't that mean traffic will be worse at that time than after the game when there is hardly anyone left in the 4th quarter? How much traffic do people really miss by leaving at halftime?

I think really people want to leave for one or more of these reasons: (1) Tired/drunk from drinking/tailgating all day; (2) Easier to watch on TV at home; (3) Prefer to watch at a bar; and/or (4) Kids, wife, etc. want to leave.

Am I off base here? What say you?

I understand your logic and agree.
The traffic and the direction the cops send you are also asinine. It really sucks.

I think it’s more about the time people get home. Especially with kids, etc.

I stayed the whole game & got home after midnight, but I live an hr away.

A portion of the traffic problem is idiots like you. Its not a secret which way they are sending people. You can easily see this beforehand. But people want to park in a spot where getting out will take them in a different direction.

The other part is that there is a shitload of people leaving an area all at once. I dont care what you do to "fix" it, there is going to be a lot of traffic.

Why is all of this so difficult to understand?

If LSU beats Vandy you will not having nearly as many people leave for the aTm game, assuming it's close. People show up for the big games only. We have this discussion every single year.

Contraflow is retarded.

But OP is correct on the assumptions.

Other than drunk or family with kids, I don't see why you would leave an SEC game within one score just because of parking. LSU fan should have that baked in their game experience.

After the SC game(I left on the field goal and made it a 2 score game with 3 or so minutes left), I was past Denham Springs on I 12 when it was reported on the radio that their were 5 separate accidents each hindering a different outlet and to expect big delays. This has to be due to the lack of post game police detail actually assisting directing traffic for that many accidents at once to happen. The lack of personnel actively directing traffic has been an issue in the last 7yrs or so though.

Add traffic to your list to complete it.

You are off base here, because it is hyperbole to say that "everyone is leaving before the 4th quarter"

Not everyone is leaving that early. Let's say a quarter of the stadium leaves at the start of the 4th quarter. That's still 75,000 people in the stadium that need to walk to their cars and get home. Others filter out during the 4th quarter, and by game's end and the singing of the alma mater let's say you only have 1/4 of the stadium capacity left (roughly 25,000 people). All 25,000 leave the stadium at once, and the ramps, stairs, concourses are wall-to-wall with just that amount

But the bigger problem is once you get to your car. The other 75,000 folks are already on the roads ahead of you, clogging the streets. The traffic is already there, and you are not IN it, you are at the BACK of it.

Compare that to the Alabama game in 2022, or the Ole Miss game last year. Close games, both went to overtime. Barely anyone left; the stadium was still probably 97% full when we finally won. Everyone (who didn't rush the field) pretty much left AT THE SAME TIME and it was a mess getting out of the stadium, getting to your car, and traffic was the worst it's ever been.

But you didn't hear as many complaints, because they were such great games and big wins; people were happy and many hung out at their car or tailgate site and savored the win a little longer.

We don't get a chance to go to many games anymore. Maybe 1-2 every year.
We drive in from Hammond and expect the traffic to suck both ways.

In 30 years, the wife and I have never left a game early. We've sat in the blazing heat, the pouring rain and the bone chilling cold.

It's a privilege to be able to see these games and experience Tiger Stadium.
People will make time for what's important to them. Traffic is no excuse to leave early.

What I don’t understand is people who tailgate pre game for hours but not after the game. I’ve found that if you hang out for about an hour post game the traffic is moving fine.

I left with two minutes left in the 4th and I went from PMAC lot to 1-10 W in 10-15 minuets.

We stay till the end and until the players leave the field every single game. My 11 year old simply doesn't want to miss a thing.

Fortunate enough to have a parking pass and sometimes we catch the band and sometime we catch traffic.

Exit traffic hasn't been the issue this season, it is arrival traffic. They changed up some entry points with no notice and the same route can vary from 20 minutes to an hour and 20 minutes.

I hate to say it, but they may have to block off all of Highland, on campus, to parking passes only at some point.

And this mindset is the very reason LSU doesn’t give two shits about the gameday fan experience.

Pro tip - if you’re in the New Orleans area, park near state street if you can. I started doing this and get home so much faster than when I parked on the south side of campus

Mass busses leaving from campus going to parking lots outside of contraflow seem like a decent idea. But they'd have to be free to get people to do it and free means you know who so they can only go to good parts of town

We sat in traffic for over an hour after the USC game. I don't blame anyone one fricking bit for not dealing with that bullshite. AND I HATE when people leave early.

I am not sure if you go to games, but the traffic is atrocious. It is the worst of all SEC venues, even Texas in downtown Austin. I do not leave early. I travel from Texas for games and stay the whole time. I do understand why some early, I wish they would not. It does tend to be one area that you see people leaving early, that is the west side. I do not know if that because it is where a lot of older people sit because they have the points to get early dibs on getting those seats to avoid the sun, but that side has been like that years.
