The concrete sound walls along Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge are in for a cleaning, East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards' office said Monday.

In a news release, Edwards said the city-parish government and the Louisiana Department of Transportation will work together to clean the walls in both directions between Acadian Thruway and the I-10/I-12 split.

Overnight lane closures are expected to begin on Wednesday. DOTD will announce more specific closure times and locations, the release said.

The project, which is expected to take 10 to 12 working days, will use drones provided by LA Drone Services, which has been contracted to perform the work, the release said.

When you have a beautiful city, you take care of it," Edwards said in the release. "These sound walls are what people see coming in and out of Baton Rouge every day. Keeping them clean sends a message that we take pride in our home, we work together, and we care about how Baton Rouge looks."

I think we’re reaching the saturation point of drone usage. This makes zero sense. Also, I like how it’s pressure washing over the vines that have been there for a decade.

seriously.

there's no "pressure washing". You can see the places it "cleaned" look exactly the same. The amount of tax dollars spent on someone's cousin to do this is probably insane.

The amount of counter force that drone would need to produce to offset a decent water pressure would be pretty significant

I believe this company was used to clean the Cajundome roof in Lafayette, and they did it for much cheaper than the traditional way.

It makes sense on a 5 story dome.

They can access these walls easily with a man lift

Ever thought they might be soft washing....that requires very little pressure and using bleach instead of pressure?

Idk but it's a plausible explanation.

They just showed the drone attached to 40 ft of like 1/2 inch yellow air hose on WBRZ. They classify it as a "soft wash" lol. A summer afternoon rain has more psi than this thing. Wonder which city's official brother-in-law is getting rich off of this "soft wash" Shooters gonna shoot, don't go changing Louisiana.

They are about to do restoration to the whole skin of the building.

There have been crews downtown pressure washing the surround government buildings. Hopefully the capital building gets a good scrubbing soon.

They used a drone and a "soft wash" to clean the roof of the Cajundome and it worked great.

I don't know if what they're doing with the sound walls is the same thing, but it's doesn't necessarily take a lot of psi to work.

I read somewhere that there is a big plan in the works to give the capital a makeover.

Do they even necessarily need a manlift? If they’re just doing a soft wash, couldn’t they just.. spray it from the ground?

Maybe there’s some concern about overspray with the chemicals, depending on what’s behind the walls. But even then it seems like you’d just use a manlift for the parts where there are nearby structures or streets behind the wall.

I’m with you.. not really understanding what value the drones are adding here. Maybe the drone company took the job for cheap thinking it’d be good advertising or something.
