Offensive Improvement...game was objectively a move in the right direction offensively

I recognize that we did not play a complete game on offense with the turnovers and drops, and that these numbers still need to improve. But we were all looking for improvement in the running game, play calling, OL play and Nuss scrambling and that is what we got this weekend.
The 166 rushing yards this week is not just our highest number of the season, it is the 2nd highest rushing yard total since Daniels played. 2nd only to last year's South Alabama game. The same can be said about the yards per carry at 5.53.
The 30 yards of rushing that Nuss had is his highest output of his career.
Granted you can easily look at those numbers and say it is still not close to where we need them be and that would be fair. But this was an improvement from what we have been seeing the last season and a half in the running game.
Nuss did get hit a lot this game but we didn't give up a sack to a team that was ranked 5th in conference heading into the game. Despite the struggles we have had with the OL, over our 3 SEC games this season Nuss has only been sacked 1 time (Ole Miss). Part of that is getting the ball out early on the perimeter but I found that stat to be surprising given everything that has occurred.
As far as the playcalling goes you did see the wildcat with Johnson, you saw us go under center, we didn't run the WRs, we made Green a focal point, and we did throw the ball down field.
There is plenty to still work on but that game was objectively a move in the right direction offensively. And we did it without one of our most explosive playmakers.

Yeah, but we only have 4 good pitchers
This team won't make it out of a regional

turnovers and drops,
That RPO that was picked was a ball play call and it fell like Nuss didn't read at all.
The drops... All that bs from Hilton's dad online and he drops easy balls. Brown needs those spots going forward. Could have had 2 more TDs if those are caught. Though even with the drops, the fact that Hilton got behind the defense probably helped open up the run game.

The bottom line is the offense didn’t execute. Do set and/or Raleigh, I can’t remember which one wrote about it in a column today. The poor production was on the players not the coach coaching. the players made many mistakes that cost us at least 17 to 20 points. This game was a blowout without all of the mental and physical errors by the players.

It really is a shame we turned it over twice inside the 10. This could have been a week spent praising what looks like an offensive turnaround. Instead, we're all a bit concerned.

The plays called must fulfill one main basic thing. The plays the OC calls must align with what he/she knows the players can execute at a high level. In practice this should be above 50% of the time. The OC should be cognizant of these facts and not resort to low percentage plays that mostly do not get the job done.

we are still ranked low rushing albeit last game was an improvement.
see if we can keep it up
106 in rushing
throw out the anomaly SELA game and we are only scoring 19.8 per game.

This offense is never going to be great. We just don’t have the experience on the line for it to be great, but if Nuss gets health, it can become a serviceable offense. A good deep ball threat will open up the run game a bit more.

This team can easily win a championship with 166 rush yards/game, if the rest of the offense is consistent. We don't actually need to run the ball any better than the we did Saturday night, we just need to eliminate the catastrophic mistakes and be more timely with our run game.
One of the post-game guys made a good point, imo, comparing it to last season in baseball when we had guys start getting hits, which was an improvement, but we weren't getting timely hits and producing runs. It wasn't until closer to the end of the season that it all started to come together with timely hits. That's kind of how I feel about our offense Saturday. We got enough hits, we just had too many bonehead mistakes and not enough timely hits (like with 1st & goal from the 1) to put the game away.

I definitely saw improvement in that game in the areas I wanted to see improvement.
Now I would like to put it all together and score 30+ this week.
If this offense can get to the high 20’s and somehow into the 30’s we can win any game we play.

This is not a good football team on either side of the ball...they are a mediocre football team on both sides of the ball. It isn't coaching it is overall quality of players. I totally disagreed on Nuss raving going into the season and i am sticking with it...hurt or not. The Oline is truly average...somewhat effective pass blocking horrid run blocking...result...horrid run game. It takes an outstanding back to perform with this line. If people expect powerful wins from this team they are truly going to be disappointed this is a just wins it team with luck on their side..ala Saturday.

Defense is pretty legit and the only reason we are even competitive in these games. Feels like we just can't get into a rhythm and keep stepping on our own dicks.

Stopped reading after that. Cause that’s just dumb.
Complain about Nuss and the offense all you want. Probably not a great week to do since it’s actually the first week this year our offense actually showed a pulse. But nonetheless feel free to complain about the offense… criticism deserved. But LSU’s defense is good… very good.

An RPO in a condensed field when it is run or throw over the middle is shockingly bad. Nuss still messed up, but don’t call that shite.
ETA: For the we hate Nuss crowd because of his goalline INT. He did this last year and did this Saturday which tells me he is back to health. But he is ELITE, literally ELITE at not getting sacked. When he feels healthy and is focused and reading the D, he will stand in there and take a hit while moving in the pocket. Considering how awful our run game has been, we don’t get behind the chains a ton solely because Nuss can get rid of the ball.

Chicken really needs to ban this troll. I think you are accidentally re-watching 2024 on your DVR. There is no way you can watch any game this year and think our defense or special teams is anywhere near mediocre. Just impossible.

I get the sentiment here but I’d imagine that every other team has played a cupcake or two at this point in the season

If we are playing this game, there are literally 7 plays that have cost up 10 points per game. And I mean like specific turnover at the GL, not kicking a FG, etc. Most ppl know this.

I laughed, but this ain’t baseball and Kelly isn’t Jay Johnson. Jay is at the top of his game. He is young(as far as a coach), energetic and a tireless worker. We are at a disadvantage with Kelly vs Jay.

Easily? LOL, I don’t buy that. Every championship takes some good fortune. I don’t know how easy it is? Nothing with this team is easy.

True. In 2030, this team would be competitive.
