Initially I think Bill wanted to return to coaching but the NFL said no. He turned to college thinking that would provide a new challenge but most people of the premier jobs didn’t seem interested until a desperate UNC came calling with a blank check. Bill could give 0 fricks about this job, he wants to be in the NFL chasing the all time wins record but now he’s even more radioactive so doubt he gets that chance

It's a LOT easier to put together a roster on day one now than it was back in 2007.
Bama had issues in 2007 but you could tell Saban was hyper-intense in practice and on the sidelines during games and he was putting together one of the best recruiting classes ever when not doing those two things.
2007 Saban was the definition of focused.
2025 Belichick is the definition of DGAF.

That team just checked out after they lost by a TD to eventual champion LSU. They were #17 in November going into that game, and they were better for most of that season than Shula’s last season.
This UNC team looks like one of the worst power conference teams I’ve ever seen. They’ve lost their 3 P4 games by 28, 25, and 34 to unranked teams, and Dabo put on a clinic in not running up the score.
Saban was basically stuck with a Shula roster, whereas Bill and Lombardi built this disaster with what’s reportedly a pretty substantial NIL budget.

Belicheck is a good CEO type and decent coach. North Carolina needs a very good X's and O's coach to succeed right now because they do not have the talent to do it.
