Hope everyone is surviving!

It’s going to be a pain in the arse for me these next few weeks.

Loving every minute of it. People seem to be very happy.

A little concerned about my son, who goes to work this week but won't get paid until things reopen.

I work for the government. I’ll be at work tomorrow as the VA is funded independent of these silly CRs.

It looks like I'll live, but it was touch and go for the first 15 minutes

The shutdown from 2020-2021 was worse when the government shut down my business for 2 years to flatten the curve.

Not looking forward to playing catch up once I’m back to work, but I can’t lie, the time off has been good

Lost a good bit of our flight hours so I get to sit around and twiddle my thumbs at work

Same here. Thankfully some of us were blessed with very strong will to preserve.
But in seriousness, I don't ever think it's cool when people lose their jobs or basically work for free until which time the gov pulls their head out of their collective arse and puts things back together and give retro pay. But the fact is that government could've prevented the shutdown in the first place.
It's on Congress. The last actual, balanced budget they passed was in 1996. Everything since they has been bullshite omnibus bills and continuing resolutions. Why?- because those types of budgets allow for certain expenditures that the US Constitution doesn't explicitly permit. It's the ultimate "end-around" for tax money spending, and not enough of us are furious about it in part because there are millennials and GenZ voters who weren't even born yet the last time an actual Congressional balanced budget was passed.
And that's exactly how governments change things. They just ignore precedent and do things they shouldn't do for very long periods of time, and pretty soon it just becomes SOP. The ignorant masses that see it, don't understand that it's wrong, because it's all they're ever known and they've been gaslit to believe it's "the way" by our public education system and the popular culture media Narrative Control Apparatus. ALL of Congress, for nearly 30 years (even the "good ones") have completely failed their country and their constituents.

Vast majority of the government is functioning just not being paid. Shutdowns are stupid, deficits are nuts. Congress is an embarrassment.
required to work without pay:
- active duty miltary
- tsa agents / air traffic controllers
- border patrol / ice
- all federal law enforcement
- prison employees and officers
- irs (the thieves of course)
- postal service

From what I’ve been told there are no green jeans running around the national forests due to the shutdown. Do with that information what you will and have fun fellas!!
