Not sure if a lot of yall have seen the T-Bob Herbert clip going around but hearing that and putting everything together...BK definitely seemed to know Denbrock was the guy but thought that Sloan was the key to Underwood. Should have never tried to have the cake and eat it too with the co-OC bull.....hindsight 20/20 but watching ND hang 55 on Arkansas while a Underwood-less LSU offense under Sloan sits dead in water is painful. Think every LSU fan would have made compromise of not having Bryce Underwood (which happened anyway) to have Denbrock at OC right about now

This story has been floating around for a while. I'm not sure if it's entirely true, but it's disturbing nonetheless. In the current world of college football, recruiting and commitments from players mean next to nothing compared to $$$$. We will never know if Underwood ever really intended to honor his commitment to LSU, but as soon as Dave Portnoy made it known that he was gonna buy Michigan a QB, we were fricked. Once Underwood flipped his commitment, Kelly should've demoted Sloan back to QB coach and got himself another OC. There is absolutely no reason to retain Sloan on staff in any capacity other than QB coach. Hell, I'd let him go altogether if I were in Brian Kelly's place.

The story I saw was that they wanted Sloan to be Denbrock's co oc so becuase they were afraid he would leave and so would Underwood.

Kelly doesn’t need an OC. He’s an offensive minded cow CB in the same way Saban was a defensive minded coach.

Just take the card away from Sloan and call it yourself.

Mikie Mahtook and Richard Dickson have seemingly confirmed this narrative in the past few days.

Yeah, and Scott Woodward never even considered Lincoln Riley and BK was his target all along.

They're from Michigan, but South Bend is only like 10 miles from the border.

That said, I highly doubt that was the only reason, probably more like icing on the cake. I get to go back home and be a real OC and not have to put up with this punk kid stealing my job.

I have no idea if this is true and definitely have my doubt but it somewhat makes sense. Underwood was suppose to be BK and LSUs one massive chance at a championship.

Sloan was never Co-OC to Denbrock. Sloan and Hankton are Co-OC because they did not want either to leave. Sloan has QBs and play calling. Hankton has WRs and a title

This is sort of my opinion, too. There obviously seems/is more to it but at face value seems like BK opted to bet big on landing Underwood as opposed to securing a good OC...which is concerning

Doesn’t matter who the OC is when the oline sucks. That’s on Davis. He needs to be fired. Should never had been retained. We haven’t had a consistent running game with legitimate RBs since he has been oline coach.

No shite. I didn't say they were. They wanted that. Denbrock just had a QB win the heisman and he didn't want that so he left.

Okay there is some truth to Kelly moving on from Denbrock BUT, Denbrock was trying to get back for personal reasons. It was not a forcing out type deal.

Listening to Carter and AYS, one of them spoke to someone from ND, and they said that divorce was always going to happen. It happened at ND, and it was always going to happen at LSU.

T-Bob is full of shite saying Denbrock was “pushed out.” It’s funny he didn’t say WORD ONE about this until now. It’s almost like he’s trying to pump some free engagement trading on his status as a former player and BR media connections while the team is down. But if this were true, it would have been raised a lot more prominently a LONG time before now.

The truth is likely much simpler. Guys get in name only promotions for pay raises all the time. Hankton is a perfect example, as it’s pretty clear that Sloan runs and calls our offense. If Kelly was going to do that with Sloan, do any of you really think Denbrock would give a shite?

Denbrock ran a particular style of offense at Cincinnati that many of our fans weren’t particularly excited about when he was hired. Lots of 12 and 13 personnel and the TEs featured as or more prominently as the WRs. It looked similar to what we were used to seeing from Kelly’s teams at ND.

Did we ever see that offense here? I won’t say it was daylight and dark and bore absolutely no resemblance, but Denbrock ran more 4 WR sets in a month here than in a full season at Cinci. He changed his scheme here and then changed it even more as they figured out what worked best for Daniels.

No matter what, we weren’t going to ever run Denbrock’s actual preferred offense here. If he had stayed here, he would have been running a variation of what we had already seen, tweaked for Nuss. We saw plenty of that in the 22 SECCG and the Bowl Game vs Purdue.

Is Denbrock running the offense we saw from him here at ND? No. What he’s doing today looks much more like what he was running at Cincinnati when he had full control on that side of the ball. We may never know, but I personally believe he left to go somewhere he could run his preferred system again. With Freeman being a defensive guy, you know he was handed the keys to do whatever he wanted coming off that 2023 season. Denbrock was never going to get that opportunity here, especially after how well 2023 went. We 1000% would have run that same offense and style we used with Daniels with a guy like Underwood.

We shite on Sloan but I will always kinda fell for him when it comes to the underwood situation. He went all in busted his arse off recruiting that kid and securing his commitment only for the work he put in on building that relationship to disappear when big time dollar signs were brought to the table without any sort of backup plan . The underwood recruitment was when I truly realized relationships have little to no weight in today’s NIL world.
