Is it possible that Kelly genuinely doesn’t know how to fix the offense?

Obviously we can’t read minds, but what if he genuinely is out of ideas and is as surprised/dismayed as we are that the offense is in disrepair?

The evidence would suggest that you are correct.

I didn’t realize anyone recognized a bad LSU offense under Kelly before this year.

I think that he knows what he wants to run, but it's so fundamentally broken from top to bottom that it may be beyond fixing. You have to blow it up and start over, and it's too late to do that now.

Well up until now he didn’t even seem to acknowledge the offense needed fixing. That’s the most concerning thing

Yes.

We can’t run the ball because our O line sucks. We can’t pass the ball because our QB sucks.

$20M roster with $4M to a QB.

This is college football now.

Hell he can't even recognize good Assistants. Its been embarrassing.
Just name the Assistant coaches that he has hired, since being named Head Coach.
Several of the ones he fired, he has had to rehire.
That should be an indication of his knowledge of the game.

Hell Orgeron started looking for new offensive coaches as soon as he got the job. He did very good, until Woody started interfering..

1000%. if he had an inkling, he would have implemented something....one or two plays, some sweeps, pitches to the outside, reverses, reverse passes, I formation....anything at this stage. Our offense is the most predictable and has the fewest plays in American football.

I have no problem at all with Kelly totally cleaning house when he took over and retaining next to no one.

The program needed a total overhaul so anyone tied to Miles or Orgeron had to go.

Nuss has to be hurt more than we’re led to believe but Kelly has basically dug his grave saying nothing is wrong, at least not bad enough to sit him. The optics are just to bad to put in MVB from a playing perspective .
Imagine putting your backup in after all off season everyone touting your “heisman” qb .

He needed to during southern but here we are.
Hopefully he either gets healthy or we get to see what MVB can do. Hes just OFF right now, can’t hit shite!

If he knew how, why wouldn't he fix it immediately. His entire legacy at LSU and maybe college football depends on him fixing the problems whenever, wherever they exist. He has literally done nothing for a month to improve this team.

A few things can be true. Kelly knows how to fix the offense but he doesn't have the ability to fix the offense for this season. His decision to move forward with Joe Sloan has proven to be a mistake. The system is broken.

Now I want to be clear. Joe Sloan is a good offensive mind and he does an excellent job scouting and breaking down defensive film (game tape). But his ability or lack thereof as a play caller is terrible. Kelly like many head Coaches has an ego and for whatever reason he and Denbrock had to have a divorce and instead of interviewing and finding a good play caller he went with the young buck on staff (who he really liked). He did the same thing while at Notre Dame and that bit him in the arse too with Tommy.

One of my biggest complaints and one of our biggest flaws under Joe Sloan is bad attention to detail across the board. At this point it can't just be about the players and its about the way its being taught or lack thereof.

Lets start with the receivers: They do not know how to run routes vs different coverages, they don't know the proper depth, alignment or breaks of the routes. Our route spacing has been terrible.

Offensive line: I have never seen an offensive line struggle this bad to pickup and pass off stunts. They don't know who to block or how to block in the run game. We have our eyes in the wrong places that leads to us missing second level blocks that immediately lead to tackles.

Now to the play calling. We have no flow, we have terrible tendencies, and we have no idea how to sync plays together to make it harder to diagnose. La Tech exposed the teams failures. They were first to institute a drop 8 rush 3 and we still have zero answer for it.

Now to Nuss. He is clearly hurt and should not have played against Tech or South Eastern. I don't believe a word out of Kelly's mouth about it. When your QB is grimacing in pain after every throw and cannot throw it more than 20 yds without floating the ball there is a clear problem. He put everything he had into 4 throws downfield and 3 weren't even close. And don't give me "He Couldn't throw deep last year." Yeah he was mainly over throwing those passes unless he got hit or couldn't follow through. Then when Hilton got Healthy he was putting the ball on the money because he wasn't over throwing him like he was with the other receivers. Hes clearly hurt and should never have played against Tech or South Eastern to try and heal as much as he could for the tougher opponents. My fear is this is an injury that won't go away until he completely shuts it down for 4-6+ weeks. Because otherwise I think Kelly would have sat him.

Regardless the whole offense is broken and will not be fixed this year. Kelly has indirectly or directly wasted 2 NFL caliber QB talents. He will have had 4 years with NFL QBs starting at LSU with no playoff appearances to show for it. Just a complete disappointing result being put on the field.

I’m not sure how he could have watched that offense in camp and for the last 5 games and not fixed any of it if he really knew how.

I think he’s trying to get by with Nuss because he has the most experience but it’s not working.

right now we don’t really do anything well and a huge chunk of it is guys just playing like shite.

it all falls on Kelly but it’s also not something you fix overnight

At this point, I truly believe he was putting trust in Nuss and Sloan to figure it out and it has backfired tremendously.

Fix the receivers. You might fid that their route running is part of the problem

Half of what you mention is the responsibility of the position coaches. Sloan can’t teach every position group how to execute. He handles the game plan and QBs.

O Line issues and WR issues are position coach issues.

Now you can pin some of Nuss’ issues and playcalling on Sloan, but he has managed to score some points in spite of the position issues you mention.

Let’s see if the Offense starts clicking if BK can fix the O line.
