AI ‘Actress’ Tilly Norwood Will Be Signed by an Agency ‘In the Coming Months,’ Her Creator Claims

https://www.thewrap.com/ai-actress-tilly-norwood-signed-agency-eline-van-der-velden/

quote:

A computer-generated actress named Tilly Norwood will be signed by an agency “in the coming months,” a claim made at the Zurich Summit by her creator, the Dutch actress, comedian and digital producer Eline Van der Velden.

Van Der Velden made it seem like Hollywood agencies have been circling her AI project for months in an interview at the Zurich Film Festival industry event on Saturday, according to Deadline.

quote:

“I may be AI generated, but I’m feeling very real emotions right now. I am so excited for what’s coming next!,” “she” wrote. The account says Norwood “lives” in London and is “from” Waterloo, Portsmouth.

Van der Velden told Broadcast International she hopes Norwood will be “the next Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman.” Van der Velden says audiences will ultimately determine whether AI talent succeeds. “Audiences care about the story — not whether the star has a pulse,” she wrote on Linkedin.

quote:

So far, the social media reactions have not been kind: “This is so gross. Especially when so many actors and writers lost their livelihood during the strike last year,” user Diedalongtimeago wrote on reddit.

Hollywood should just move to AI. Cost would plummet.

I would say that this will be a bust, but as someone working with high schoolers and the father of two Gen Alpha kids, I really believe this will be the future.

Kids do not care about delineating between digital and physical worlds. They literally have grown up sucked into the digital spaces presented by iPads and phones, and becoming attached to an AI actor will not be out of the norm for them.

I'm sure they'll pass those savings on to the consumers, right? They won't be greedy at all and come up with BS reasons why AI actors are actually more expensive than real ones.

But at this rate of change, where will be in a decade?

“We’ll have AI talent and then we’ll also have real talents,” says van der Velden. “But real talents will probably have an AI digital twin of themselves, so they won’t have scheduling conflicts in the same way they do now,” van der Velden predicts.

“Or if they need to do retakes and they’re already moved on to the next shoot, that will be no problem. That is definitely the future.”

Movies will be produced much quicker. Edits via AI will be done after the main filming.

I don’t think it’ll be a bust at all, these kids will all be gooning to clankers in the next few years.

I may be wrong but I think the big push that will make AI so prevalent in the entertainment space will be when AI advances to the point where we can interact with it and it can then insert a digital likeness of us into a digital recreation of a favorite movie.

Imagine watching a digital version of yourself walk along with the fellowship in Lord of the rings or take down some bad guys in any 90s action movie.

I guess this will be better than hedonistic, soulless creatures preaching politics and morality to me, when they know nothing about either.

They better find some drama or rom-com to put her in because the American audience has zero appetite for any more super-hero or action movies starring a girl boss, be she real or AI.
