I have been using the NIV Thompson chain reference for almost 50 years but it seems this translation is not as prevalent as it once was. I don’t even know what transaation my pastor uses but it isn't NIV. Which version do you prefer and what do you like about it?

ESV MacArthur Study Bible

Some others like NASB.

There’s a new MacArthur Legacy Study Bible that’s supposed to be really good. I’m not familiar with the translation though.

quote:

MacArthur has said this highly readable translation is as close as the English language has ever come to translating the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

I used the NIV for many years before switching to the 1995 New American Standard. I also like the New Living Translation.

I like reading KJV or NKJV.. but if I'm researching something, I pull out as many of my different Bibles as I can.

KJV. I own many others, but the KJV is my home base.

My personal Bible I use at home for readings is a KJV. It was given to me when I was a child by my parents. I use a NIV at Church because that is what they use and it is easier to follow along.

I have the New American Bible from my school days that I still use

But I also do the Hallow "Bible in a year" program which uses the Great Adventure Bible which I believe is the Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition

I will generally read the New American Paper back before bed, the listen to what I read in the morning on the hallow app. Though slightly different, they are minor anf the conversations about the passages post-reading are still applicable to almost any version you will read

ESV because it incorporates Dead Sea scroll updates, KJV because it distinguishes between singular and plural you, and some others along with the blue letter bible app for its interlinear/concordance feature.
