Paramount is getting ready to buy Warner Bros.

Those assets include everything from WB movies to CNN to DC Comics IP. The merger would give the Ellison family the largest media empire in America, outstripping Disney. The consequences of this purchase would be massive, reverberating across media, culture, finance, and politics.

Shares of Paramount Skydance were up roughly 8% in afternoon trading.
Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced plans to separate its global TV networks business from its streaming business and studios. The Journal reported Thursday the Paramount Skydance bid would be an all-cash offer for the entirety of WBD.

Would this mean HBO Max goes away and everything (HBO, Discovery, etc.) would be through the Paramount+ app?

It would be combining two of the big 5 movie studios into one, which I imagine would have some large effects on the film industry. I also think it would make for even less originality in movies, which is dumb

Yeah, definitely seems like it would trigger antitrust laws, unless something like entertainment isn't heavily scrutinized.

It should, but right now entertainment is so beat down with competing new internet media that consolidation may be the only way the movie industry survives.
There was a time when Movie Studios could not own or exclusively contract with certain theater groups or owners. There were even limits to TV station ownership limiting some station groups to only 5 stations in the entire country. Now you have a hand full of TV station groups that own nearly all the major network affiliates in the entire country. You have big players like YouTube TV that are stealing cable customers but only are carrying network affiliated channels on their virtual cable systems but are also bypassing the the Local TV station ownership groups on revenue. Because the FCC gave that power to the networks instead of local TV station owners.

Both sides have been making moves internally in anticipation of this move. Many of those actions were done specifically because of the eventual FTC hurdle, and to preempt many of the concerns that approval process will have.
